Fern Britton's Weight Loss Journey and Diet Revealed - OK! Magazine
The transformation of Fern Britton through her weight loss journey has been nothing short of stunning, shedding an incredible 5 stone. The TV personality, presently a part of Celebrity Big Brother, smoothly transitioned from a size 22 to a size 12, leading to the question, how did she achieve this?
The usual route to weight loss involves adopting a healthy eating pattern combined with regular physical activity. Sometimes, however, more dramatic measures such as surgery are required in scenarios of rapid weight loss. This path was chosen by Fern during her health and fitness overhaul.
In 2008, Fern chose to undergo a gastric band surgery, according to reports by the Express. This surgical procedure is an option for some individuals who need to lose an extensive amount of weight, albeit not a light decision to make.
Fern opened up about her weight loss journey to Mail Online in 2011, revealing that health concerns were the primary reason for her decision to get a gastric band. She explained, 'I had high cholesterol levels. My knee joints were causing me discomfort. I could not run.'
'Approaching my 50th birthday, I thought: 'It's time to be different when I turn 50'. After the surgery, Fern reported improvement in her health and has been living a healthier lifestyle ever since.
'The band has worked for me. I now have well-regulated cholesterol levels. I am incredibly fit,' she added. The ex-This Morning host also accentuates healthy eating to maintain her weight.
Retired husband and TV chef, Phil Vickery, provided insight into her meal plan. 'Fern has significantly reduced her carbohydrate intake and now consumes a healthier diet with a lot of vegetables and fruits.'
'She thinks my cooking is marvellous. Our family meals mostly consist of traditional favourites such as cottage pie or chicken served with lots of veg and salad.' Following this low-carb diet plan has proven to aid weight loss.
Research published by the National Library of Medicine claims that obese adults who restricted their carbohydrate intake to less than 30 grams a day lost roughly 8.8 pounds more than those who limited their fat intake. Healthline experts also backed this claim stating: 'Generally, decreasing your carbohydrate consumption can aid in your weight loss.'
'Replacing carbohydrates with protein or fat increases your satiety and results in the consumption of fewer overall calories, promoting weight loss in return.'
'Furthermore, a very low-carb diet usually leads to quick weight loss in the initial weeks because of a fast drop in water weight, given that a gram of carbohydrates holds nearly three grams of water in your body.'
