Emma Stone Shares Her Emotional Experience After Shaving Her Head: ‘A Brave Move’

Emma Stone is talking about the secret she had to keep from the public.
During an interview with Vogue, published Aug. 11, Emma shaved her head for her upcoming role in Bulgonia. The movie is set to hit theaters on Halloween.
In order to keep the details of her newest movie under wraps, Stone wore wigs to hide her shaved head. However, Emma said she wishes she didn’t have to keep it under wraps.
“I was bummed I wasn’t going out with it,” she told Vogue. “Just straight-up bald. I think that would have been fun.”
And although she initially had an emotional reaction to the new hairstyle, she said there was “no better feeling in the world” than experiencing her “first shower when you’ve shaved your head? Oh my god, it’s amazing.”
Emma told Vogue that she initially cried over shaving her head, saying it brought back memories of witnessing her mom, Krista Stone, shaving her head while going through treatment for breast cancer.
“She actually did something brave,” Stone told Vogue of her mom. “I’m just shaving my head.”
But despite her own emotional reaction, the actress told Vogue her mom was onboard with her shaving her head. “My mom was like, ‘I’m so jealous. I want to shave my head again.’”
Emma continued, revealing to Vogue that while most everyone else in her life was supportive of the new look, her best friend, fellow actress Jennifer Lawrence, was not.
“I really didn’t want her to shave her head,” Jennifer quipped to Vogue. “I had already lived through the Billie Jean King haircut,” she noted, referencing the bangs Emma cut into her hair for her Battle of the Sexes role.
“Honestly, she looked beautiful,” Jennifer ultimately conceded. “She pulled it off.”
In the meantime, Emma has been rocking a pixie cut as her hair begins to grow back. It’s a process she described to Vogue as “pretty slowly for how long it’s been” since she originally shaved her head.
The now 36-year-old star is a mom herself, welcoming daughter Louise Jean, now 4, with her husband, comedian and writer Dave McCary, who she met in 2016 while hosting Saturday Night Live!, People reports.
While Emma and Dave have kept their family life away from the spotlight, she did briefly mention her daughter during her conversation with Vogue, saying, “There’s nothing I feel luckier about. She’s the greatest gift of my life, for sure.”
Emma added that for her motherhood has “streamlined everything,” she tells Vogue. “It’s a clichéd thing to say, but it changes everything. And simplifies everything.”
