Transform Your Workouts with These 5 Game-Changing Fitness Apps
At-home workouts are gaining popularity with the rise of high-tech equipment, digital platforms, and interactive apps. Not only have the major players stepped up their game, but new innovators have joined in as well. There's a fitness app out there for everyone, whether you prefer yoga, need motivation, seek a complete lifestyle overhaul, or just want a great running app. Here are some of the apps we're excited about:
If you love Alo leggings, you won't want to miss their workout platform. It offers pilates, yoga, meditation, and strength-focused workouts, as well as cardio-sculpt DanceBody series with founder Katia Pryce and nutrition advice and healthy recipes from Nicole Berrie's Bonberi. The app also provides non-workout add-ons like reiki, breathwork, and sound therapy, face yoga, and dry brushing techniques. One unique feature is the option to workout in different environments, such as poolside, beachfront, and in-studio, for added visual variation. They recently launched Summer Sculpt Sizzle, a 14-day series with two new trainers, Jeffrey Alan and Meghan McFerran, delivering short classes that can easily be stacked or done on-the-go.
If you're seeking personalized one-on-one training but have trouble finding the right fit, Future offers customized personal training from your phone. To get started, simply complete a 3-minute questionnaire and select a trainer from their customized picks of hundreds of options. After a video call to 'meet' your pro and assess your mobility and fitness in person, they'll upload an initial workout using pre-recorded videos. You can then follow your weekly regimen on your phone, and sync your fit tracker to monitor progress. The app also features check-ins via DM and personalized voiceovers from your trainer to keep you accountable.
The Mirror, now known as a streaming workout app, offers access to over 10,000 workouts from barre to yoga, boxing, dance cardio, pilates, and more. The catch is that you have to purchase the sleek mirror to access the content, but it's worth it for the interactive features like Bluetooth-enabled weights that count your reps and live classes with real-time feedback from trainers. New summer classes include Trap Cardio by Amber Chambers and Reformer on the Mat taught by Patricia Sabulis. Later this summer, the app will allow access to content without the mirror component.
Peloton revolutionized the at-home bike and treadmill game, and their guided outdoor runs have become a favorite for their users. The 30-minute Pop Run is an example of the narrated run journey, complete with ideal landscape and breathing techniques. The app also offers a 10-minute cooldown for post-workout stretching.
Last month, Peloton debuted three new membership tiers including a free, no credit card required option: Peloton Free App. This accessible app is more affordable than the monthly app: $12.99 plus tax without the bike, or the $44 monthly fee for the app with the bike. The free version even includes access to totally new content called Peloton Gym, featuring gym-inspired workouts with easy-to-follow move descriptions and short video demos. Next is Peloton App One, for those who want to join in on additional workouts, plus on-demand and live sessions ($12.99/month or $129/year). Lastly, Peloton App+ (the top tier of which starts at $24/month or $240/year) gives you all things Peloton, including exclusive specialty content.
If you want a well-rounded one-stop-shop app to help you on your healthy lifestyle journey, this one is for you. Created by actor and fitness fanatic Chris Hemsworth (who stars in Discovery’s Limitless by Chris Hemsworth), your initiation starts off with a series of questions to gauge your goals and customizes an all-encompassing plan that hits three tiers: movement, meals, and mind.
The app will drop a new personalized schedule in your queue every Thursday for the upcoming week so you know what to expect. This can include coached or self-guided workouts, step-by-step dietitian-approved daily recipes for every meal, and other wellness tools such as a wide range of guided meditations. Each workout has a corresponding video where a pro visually or verbally walks you through the dynamics and how-to.
