Rasmus Hojlund's First Premier League Goal Sparks Reactions
1,026 minutes have passed. The unending mockery from fans of other teams. Endless Tik Toks from Sean Millis. And now, it's finished.
In quite a memorable fashion, Rasmus Hojlund recorded his maiden Premier League goal which saw Manchester United grasp a narrow 3-2 victory against Aston Villa on Boxing Day. This victory marked the beginning of the Sir Jim Ratcliffe era with a highly desired triumph.
Despite the joyous cheering that filled Old Trafford by the end of the match, the first half suggested the possibility of another protest given that United's defence fell apart in a ridiculous manner, leading to them trailing by two goals.
The first goal for Aston Villa came when John McGinn's free-kick, taken from the wing, was left unchallenged to run across the six-yard box and into the back of Andre Onana's net - doesn't this sound familiar?
The fear of free kicks seems to haunt Onana.
“MCGINN JUST SCORE FROM THERE ONANA WHAT YOU DOING 😭😭😭😭😭😭”
And yet, Onana continues to escape the consequences of these situations.
Thankfully, John McGinn has come to the rescue this Christmas.
Not long after, boos echoed in the stands when Clement Lenglet found himself unmarked from a corner. The Frenchman's header across the box found Leander Dendoncker perfectly, who sealed Villa's second goal.
There's no denying how poor the marking was. United let Villa take the lead again.
After watching United trail by two goals so quickly, one can’t help but wonder if Ten Hag is on the verge of getting sacked.
United are playing horribly. The marking is disastrous.
No one seems to be marking him.
What were Ratcliffe’s thoughts at this point?
The team looks chaotic, there's no strategy, and the players appear careless. Ratcliffe is likely going to dismiss many of them, including the bald manager.
There would be calls for a statue of Ratcliffe if he ends up sacking Ten Hag
Ratcliffe should speed up things and work a miracle this January.
Even though United found their footing eventually, the tension persisted in the second half. This was amplified when Alejandro Garnacho was deemed offside after failing to pause his run when there was no significant pressure.
Does Garnacho understand the offside rule?
Garnacho’s performance was disappointing. It cannot be challenging to stay onside when all he needs to do is remain behind his teammate.
Garnacho seems to take pleasure in celebrating offside goals.
Fortunately for United, Garnacho soon found his rhythm.
After mistiming his run for a cross from Marcus Rashford just a few minutes prior, the Argentine didn't mess up his second chance. He quickly tapped the ball into the net, which started a comeback for United.
Good job Garnacho, that was an excellent goal.
Rashford appears to be back in form and is altering the course of the game.
Garnacho, yet again, proved his worth when he scored the equalizing goal for United.
Even though I don’t support United, Garnacho certainly exceeds expectations!
Garnacho seems to be single-handedly saving Ten Hag’s job.
By placing Antony over Garnacho in right wing, Ten Hag likes to play with fire.
And then, the unthinkable happened. Rasmus Hojlund scored his first Premier League goal, which turned out to be the winning goal.
Finally, Hojlund has scored a Premier League goal and we've hit a milestone.
Rasmus Hojlund, you are amazing!
Hojlund’s goal is nothing short of a miracle.
Huge respect to Sean Millis. Without him, Hojlund might never have scored.
Naturally, fans anticipated Ratcliffe to be in a relatively better mood after such a thrilling match.
A typical Manchester United comeback was led by young and academy players, perfect to commence the INEOS & Sir Jim Ratcliffe era.
The first half can be attributed to the Glazers era, while the fantastic second half was all thanks to Ratcliffe.
