Player ratings as Kulusevski's late goal secures a thrilling draw between Manchester City and Tottenham
In a thrilling last-minute turn of events, Tottenham Hotspur's Dejan Kulusevski netted a goal in the 89th minute, leading to a 3-3 draw with Manchester City on Sunday.
The two teams kept audiences riveted in what has been one of the most thrilling fixtures of the current Premier League season. Manchester City paid the price for some weak defence work despite being the treble winners, marking the game as a standout fixture at the Etihad Stadium.
The draw was not entirely beneficial for City as it ended up pushing them to third in the league table, three points behind table leaders Arsenal. Tottenham rests at fifth having finally broken their no-point streak in the last three matches.
The game dynamics allowed both teams ample room for play in the initial minutes. Jeremy Doku capitalized on an opportunity nearly managing to score a goal at the 5th minute mark but was saved by Guglielmo Vicario. The subsequent corner kick was masterfully converted into a goal by Tottenham.
Dejan Kulusevski managed to retrieve the ball and swiftly get it across to Heung-min Son who, in spite of Doku's attempts, advanced strongly into the penalty area. Son's attempt, though not very strong, found its way past Ederson and into the net, giving Tottenham an early lead.
The tables turned quickly for Son when three minutes later he inadvertently helped Julian Alvarez to turn a set piece into a goal for the opposition, causing Tottenham's lead to slip away.
A miscommunication between Tottenham players in their own defensive half nearly led to a goal by Erling Haaland, but he missed the open goal. The game continued to deliver fast-paced action, with Doku giving the Tottenham defence a hard time.
Despite his efforts, Doku's shot ended up hitting the crossbar instead of the net. Manchester City quickly shrugged off the missed opportunity and scored their second goal shortly after, courtesy of Phil Foden.
Throughout City's multiple attempts to strengthen their lead, Alvarez's shot hitting the post was the closest they got before half time. Upon recommencement of the game, Alvarez had another promising attempt saved beautifully by Vicario.
Following the save, Tottenham distinctly improved their game. Their perseverance was rewarded in the 69th minute when Giovani Los Celso successfully curled into the bottom right corner, levelling the score.
The equaliser was a wake-up call for City, following which Jack Grealish managed to race ahead and tap in a goal from Haaland's pass, taking the lead once again.
However, Tottenham held on and came back once again when Dejan Kulusevski managed to skilfully convert Brennan Johnson's cross into a goal, pushing the game to a final draw at 3-3.
