"Unveiling the Truth: The Presence of Princess Diana's Ghost in 'The Crown' Season 6 - Debunked or Confirmed?"
Written by Hillary Busis
The Daily Mail has recently been causing a stir with its descriptions of a particular scene in the upcoming sixth season of The Crown. The scene in question allegedly depicts the ghost of Princess Diana appearing before a grieving Prince Charles. But does the description match the reality of the scene? According to Peter Morgan, the creator of The Crown, it's not that simple.
Speaking with Variety, Morgan explained, “I didn't envision Diana as a ‘ghost’ in the traditional meaning of the word.” He admitted Diana does have a sort of ghostly presence in the season but disagreed with the Mail's interpretation of the scene. “What I intended was to show that Diana continues to live in the minds of those she left behind. She was a unique person, and that inspired me to represent her in an unusual narrative manner, something that's befitting of her.”
How the viewers will interpret this controversial scene remains to be seen. Even before the release of the penultimate batch of episodes on Netflix on November 16, the series has already been accused of exploiting the memory of Princess Diana. A close friend of Prince William reportedly expressed the Prince's frustration and sadness to The Daily Beast, saying, “It's incredibly hurtful to watch his mother's memory being treated disrespectfully time and again by Netflix.”
However, Prince Harry—who has a development contract with Netflix—has admitted to watching and fact-checking The Crown. Morgan, the series creator, decided not to comment on this, stating that he has never directly discussed the show with Harry.
Harry and William might find some solace in knowing that the sixth season of The Crown won't graphically depict the fatal accident that took their mother's life. When asked about this, Morgan expressed his firm stance to Variety, stating, “We were never going to show the crash.” He appeared surprised even at the thought of it.
