Manchester United failed to progress in the Champions League, suffering a 1-0 defeat against Bayern Munich at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening.

The deciding goal came in the second half from Kingsley Coman, leaving Erik ten Hag's squad without an answer to their opposition's prowess.

Despite low expectations ahead of the game, given the Red Devils' recent 3-0 loss to Bournemouth in the Premier League, the disappointing performance still came as a shock.

Mocking chants rang out from Bayern fans as Manchester United players took to the field to warm up.

The hopeful home supporters may have been pleased with their team's more solid defence during a lacklustre first half, but would undoubtedly have preferred to see more innovation and creativity in attacking plays.

Sadly for Manchester United, injuries sustained by Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw during the first half further diminished the already struggling side.

The responsibility of confronting Harry Kane in the decisive second half fell to 35-year-old Jonny Evans.

With Erik ten Hag's limited options for substitutions, it was clear that the already low confidence of the Man Utd team would not be easily regained.

The host team’s struggle to generate any significant offense continued as the match progressed.

Kingsley Coman's second-half goal solidified Man Utd's unfortunate exit from the competition.

The final whistle instigated understandable disgruntlement, with Manchester United having performed poorly in European competitions this season.

Not only did they fail to advance in the Champions League but also crashed out of the Europa League.

It marked the first time since the 2005-06 season that Man Utd has been eliminated from all European competition before year's end.

Despite all their effort to grasp a place in the Champions League, it has ended in disappointment.

Another record set this season was Manchester United's lowest ever finish in the Champions League group stages - a mere 5 points, under Erik ten Hag's management. Erik ten Hag is the first to manage an English club that conceded 15 goals in the Champions League group sta

Further scrutiny awaits Ten Hag after a woefully poor performance that led to Manchester United's untimely exit from Europe's premier competition.
