Travis Kelce Criticizes Brother Jason's Remarks on Swifties' "Unrealistic Fascination" with Him
Jason Kelce placed the blame for the skewing of the Best NFL Team Name bracket on Taylor Swift fans, an accusation that his brother, Travis Kelce, was quick to challenge. Travis leaped to the defense of his girlfriend Taylor Swift’s fans, refuting the claim that they voted based on their liking for him, rather than the team name itself.
In an episode of the podcast "New Heights", broadcast on February 8, Jason contended that the followers of pop star Swift, called Swifties, held a fantastic obsession with the Kansas City Chiefs and his brother, Travis. He argued that the fans primarily cast their votes out of an affection for Travis, ignoring the quality of the team name itself.
At this, Travis, who plays as tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, responded with outrage and laughter, labeling Jason’s allegations as unfounded and baseless, putting the blame on the fans for unfairly influencing the voting.
But Jason wasn’t going to back down easily, even as Travis implied that Jason himself may have distorted the voting by roping in “all of the Bills Mafia on Twitter.” Travis was adamant that Jason had a role in tipping the scales when the Buffalo Bills won over the Kansas City Chiefs.
Jokingly, Jason maintained his stance, stating that his tweets were only to increase voter turnout for underrepresented teams.
The Philadelphia Eagles player put the spotlight on the Swifties once more after a loss to the Minnesota Vikings. According to Jason, they accused him of vote manipulation and retaliated by voting against him due to their lack of understanding of how politics work.
However, all this ribbing and back-and-forth was done in a lighthearted spirit for their podcast. Jason fondly spoke of Grammy winner Taylor as an addition to his family in a recent episode and made mention of her during a celebration at the M&T Bank Stadium after their victory over the Baltimore Ravens on January 28.
Taylor and Travis started seeing each other towards the end of summer 2023. Although he had the initial intention to handover his phone number at her concert at Arrowhead Stadium on July 8, 2023, he couldn’t, due to her rule about conversing with anyone before and after her shows. But with a little help from a cupid, the couple started dating and have been smitten with each other since September 2023, often sharing their relationship publicly.
During the Chiefs game against the Bills on January 21, Jason and his wife Kylie had the chance to meet Taylor for the first time. Jason caused a stir when he spontaneously removed his shirt and jumped out of a suite following Travis’s touchdown. Although wife Kylie was warned beforehand, he didn’t ask her permission.
While chatting with Travis during an episode of “New Heights” on January 24, Jason confessed that he had preinformed Kylie about his plans to strip his shirt and take a leap from the suite but went ahead and did it anyway, much to her displeasure.
