Spurs Progress to FA Cup Fourth Round with Porro Stunner: Player Ratings
On Friday evening, Tottenham Hotspur secured their spot in the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 1-0 victory against Burnley.
Spurs struggled for much of the match, but a late, exceptional strike from Pedro Porro clinched the winning spot for Ange Postecoglou's team.
Despite facing some close calls with a pair of missed opportunities by Zeki Amdouni, Burnley didn’t pressure the Spurs much, with the host team securing their next round placement without much difficulty.
Both teams put forth a good fight, with Tottenham persistently attacking Burnley's goal while contending with a resilient defence. Wilson Odobert made a long-range strike on Guglielmo Vicario's goal.
Richarlison attempted a shot that drifted wide just before the 10-minute mark and another near miss occurred when Johnson's shot from the edge of box, though saved by Arijanet Muric, was the first half's highlight.
The Spurs began to control the ball and relentlessly pressured Burnley with high-energy play. Amdouni, however, nearly led for Burnley when he evaded the Spurs' defense but missed his shot, sailing the ball over the net.
Ange Postecoglou’s team maintained around 70% possession in the first half, but their attack lacked drive after the initial chances. Arijanet Muric saw little action after denying Johnson’s effort due to Burnley's resilient defence.
Frustration was obvious among Tottenham’s home fans as the Spurs struggled offensively. Burnley simply sat deep and shrugged off any challenges, causing Muric no worry.
A well-placed cross from Destiny Udogie set up a volley attempt by Johnson after the one-hour mark, but Burnley’s goalkeeper deflected it with ease.
Spurs found the opening they needed from a tremendous long-range strike from Pedro Porro 11 minutes from the end.
Following a missed opportunity by Richarlison, Porro retaken the ball and unleashed a rapid, electrifying strike from outside the box, sending the ball straight to the top corner of Muric's goal, stunning everyone watching.
In the final moments of the game, with 97 minutes on the clock, Hannes Delcroix missed a chance but Muric’s forward attack and header onto Amdouni resulted in another missed opportunity for Burnley. Amdouni, in the six-yard box alone, sliced the ball wide from close range in the match’s final play.
