On Saturday afternoon, Newcastle United and Luton Town fought a thrilling 4-4 draw at St. James' Park.

This was an intense game with both teams taking turns scoring against each other with little thought to defense, looking much like a schoolyard kick-about.

Sean Longstaff scored twice for Newcastle in the first half, but Luton managed to equalize both times before the half ended. In the early part of the second half, Luton managed to put themselves ahead 4-2.

A goal from Kieran Trippier and a late one from substitute Harvey Barnes brought Newcastle back to level pegging with 17 minutes remaining in normal time. Both teams had opportunities to clinch victory but the match ended in a draw.

Longstaff wasted little time in making his presence felt, finding the back of the net from Trippier's cross just seven minutes into the game.

Not to be put off by the home side's aggressive start, Luton soon equalized through Gabriel Osho's header from a set piece at the 20-minute mark.

Newcastle capitalized on Luton's forward pressure, with Anthony Gordon setting up Longstaff's second goal just two minutes after Luton had equalized.

Newcastle, known for its solid defense last season, hasn't been as successful this season, giving away more goals. Ross Barkley brought Luton level once more just before half-time.

The second half proved to be as action-packed as the first, with Carlton Morris taking advantage of a Dan Burn penalty to give Luton a 4-2 lead.

Elijah Adebayo, the hat-trick hero in Luton's previous match against Brighton, scored the club's fourth goal.

Newcastle mounted a late comeback with goals from Trippier and substitute Barnes, who hadn't played for Newcastle since their 8-0 win over Sheffield United back in September. Barnes' goal brought the teams level with 17 minutes to go.

Player ratings were provided for the Newcastle squad with Kieran Trippier and Lewis Miley getting the highest at 7 and 8 respectively, while goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, defender Sven Botman and Dan Burn received ratings of 4, 4, and 2 respectively.
