The founder of Skims, Kim Kardashian, left fans in disbelief when she invited Ivanka Trump to her 43rd birthday party. Now, she is returning the gesture by wishing Ivanka a happy 42nd birthday which fell on Monday, October 30.

Kardashian took to Instagram Stories to celebrate their friendship, sharing multiple moments of them together. One of these pictures featured the two women each hugging their firstborn daughters; Ivanka with 12-year-old Arabella Kushner while Kardashian was with North West, 10. The accompanying caption read, "Happy Birthday to the most thoughtful sweetest soul @ivankatrump.”.

The posts also hinted at an upcoming meetup, with Kardashian writing “Can’t wait to celebrate you asap!” and noting how small their children were in the photograph posted.

During her birthday event held on October 22, some fans expressed confusion over Ivanka's attendance, considering the rest of Kardashian's famous friends and family were present. Some responses to the gathering expressed distaste and disbelief, while others defended the unexpected friendship, pointing out the importance of engaging with those who hold differing views.

Contrary to the surprised reactions, Kim and Ivanka have enjoyed a friendship that spans several years. A source disclosed to Us Weekly in October 2023, that the two women had known each other for years and got friendly almost a decade ago at the Met Gala, bonding over motherhood.

Besides their personal closeness, Kim also sought support from Ivanka during her prison reform campaign, which got her an audience in the White House with then-President Donald Trump. In his 2022 memoir, Breaking History, Jared Kushner wrote about how Kim approached Ivanka for assistance in advocating for Alice Johnson's pardon. Johnson, a grandmother from Mississippi, was serving a life sentence for a drug conviction from 1996.

In May 2018, Kim made a successful plea for Alice’s freedom during her meeting with Trump in the Oval Office. As a result, the president commuted her sentence in the following month.
