This Detergent is Helping Me Save Hundreds of Dollars on Clothes

Part of my occupation includes inspecting various items, such as locating a high-quality running jacket or finding bargains on a large treadmill investment. This role suits me well given that I typically lean towards budget-conscious shopping — my frequent choice is a $15 Champion sports bra — and I also enjoy finding discounted sneakers. However, when it comes to leggings, I have a tendency to spend generously on my preferred pair and use them until they are completely worn out.

A significant component in my durability strategy originates in the washing process. My workout clothing is always washed in cold water and air-dried. Recently, I stumbled upon Downy Rinse Active — a formula that leaves clothes and towels smelling freshly laundered — and its capabilities in eliminating persistent odours has been a game-changer.

Many individuals own a pair of leggings that emit a faint gym locker room smell regardless of how often they are washed. One might attempt pre-soaking or adding vinegar to the wash, but unfortunately the musty aroma often persists. Strangely, this issue arises more frequently with my desired leggings, which tend to be the most costly, as well. Instead of disposing of workout clothing worth hundreds of dollars, I decided to try this liquid on an old batch of leggings and yoga towels with a moulding scent. I was genuinely amazed by their fresh and clean outcome. Although product recommendations are a part of what I do, I never expected to be raving about a laundry detergent to my colleagues — is this a typical experience in your 30s?

So, how does this product function? Allow me to introduce washing 101: Laundry detergent has a high pH level, which are effective against stains, dirt, and general cleanliness. Downy Rinse, on the other hand, has a low pH level, which is more proficient at combating odours and residues. Many individuals add vinegar to their odorous laundry loads as it also has a low pH level. However, I must admit: this trick is not as effective as you might believe it to be.

When added to the fabric softener compartment (or during the rinse cycle), Downy Rinse offers your clothes an additional washing experience, eliminating any persistent musky, mould-like and simply unpleasant scents, as well as residues from sweat or deodorant. I prefer the Rinse Active line that carries a subtle citrus scent after each wash, but for those who are sensitive, the product is available even in a fragrance-free version. It has not only been successful in dealing with my sweat-drenched workout clothes, but also in removing residues of antiperspirants from tank tops and t-shirts that leave white rings around the seams.

My economical habits have been safeguarded from a wardrobe clear-out — at just $13 per bottle (and only a small quantity is needed per load), Downy Rinse Active is breathing new life into my used workout clothes.
