Tottenham Hotspur's Fabio Paratici steps down from role as ban appeal proves unsuccessful, says The Guardian.
Fabio Paratici, the managing director of football at Tottenham, has resigned from his position after failing to overturn a 30-month worldwide ban from the game. This decision follows the rulings issued by Italy’s highest sports court within the Italian Olympic Committee on Thursday, regarding Paratici’s case.
Tottenham issued a statement saying: “The current worldwide ban prevents Fabio from fulfilling his duties as our managing director of football. Fabio has consequently taken the decision to resign from his position at the club with immediate effect to focus on his legal position in respect of the FIGC [Italian Football Federation] and FIFA rulings.”
Chairman Daniel Levy noted that “this has been a stressful time for Fabio and his family,” but wished him well. Paratici’s ban originates from his time at Juventus, who were found guilty of false accounting, although both he and the club deny wrongdoing.
Paratici’s departure, along with his ban, comes at a difficult time for Tottenham, as they search for a permanent successor to Antonio Conte as manager, plan for transfers, and try to persuade Harry Kane to remain at the club.
Last month, FIFA extended a ban initially imposed by the Italian Football Federation on Paratici worldwide. Paratici had worked at Juventus for 11 years before joining Spurs in 2021.
Juventus, on the other hand, had their 15-point penalty suspended by the authorities for their role in the affair, pending a new trial, in contrast to Paratici's situation.
