Condé Nast has declared Raul Martinez as the newly appointed global creative director for Vogue, with Anna Wintour as his direct superior in New York. Martinez's journey with Condé Nast demonstrates a long and prestigious history. His initial engagement with the magazine publisher was in 1988 as an associate art director, a role he held until 1996 before he left to establish AR New York, a creative agency that serviced clients such as YSL, Calvin Klein and Valentino. Martinez returned to Condé Nast in 2009, where he held the position of chief creative officer and reported directly to Wintour until 2015. Afterwards, he briefly departed from Condé Nast to serve as the head creative director for Victoria’s Secret and Co. from 2021. Other than his impressive professional trajectory, Martinez's artistic prowess has been nationally acknowledged via a National Magazine Award for photography. His term for his new role will commence on February 5th, with Wintour as his immediate superior once again.

Wintour publicly expressed her enthusiasm for Martinez's return in a statement, "Raul knows Vogue inside and out, and is not only a brilliant, creative thinker, but a great leader and wonderful colleague. I know I speak for the entire team when I say I am so thrilled to have him back."

The announcement from Condé Nast laid stress on Martinez's expected responsibilities in his new role, which will involve directing the magazine's creative efforts globally across all platforms. He will also contribute significantly to Vogue's video content, with a focus on maintaining a seamless integration of video in story-telling. This will include a range of formats such as short, social clips, news reels, and long features.

Martinez shared his excitement about the opportunity, especially with regards to nurturing new talent, "Vogue has always been a home for showcasing new voices and talent. One of the things I am most excited about is using our platform to introduce up-and-coming creatives to the world, as well as to mentor young artists. I also look forward to imagining new ways to tell stories – whether in-book, on social, digital, or video. And, of course, I am so excited to be returning to Condé Nast and to once again partner with Anna."
