AT STAMFORD BRIDGE - Chelsea secured their spot in the Carabao Cup final with a decisive 6-1 win against Middlesbrough on Tuesday, winning 6-2 on aggregate.

Under the leadership of Mauricio Pochettino, the team delivered one of the strongest performances of the 2023/24 season so far, effectively crushing Boro's chances of a surprise cup victory.

In the final next month, Chelsea will face Liverpool or Fulham, with the Reds currently leading 2-1 and set to play at Craven Cottage on Wednesday.

Although Middlesbrough dominated early in the game, Chelsea came close to scoring first. A long ball from Thiago Silva to Ben Chilwell almost resulted in a goal, but Chilwell's header went over the bar.

Chelsea scored the first goal 15 minutes in, tying the aggregate score. Chilwell darted past several Middlesbrough defenders and passed to Raheem Sterling, who then set up Armando Broja to score. Despite Broja's initial misstep, Jonny Howson was unable to prevent the goal.

Boro retaliated swiftly with an unsuccessful attempt at a corner, with Morgan Rogers' shot saved by Djordje Petrovic.

Sterling set up a second goal for Chelsea shortly before the end of the first half, with Enzo Fernandez scoring the goal.

Chelsea increased their lead with a third goal shortly after, scored by Axel Disasi in response to a careless pass from Matt Clarke. Before half-time, Cole Palmer capitalised on a loose pass by Hayden Hackney to score a fourth goal for Chelsea

After half-time, Levi Colwill narrowly missed adding to Chelsea's tally. Meanwhile, Dael Fry averted disaster by managing to prevent a goal following Sterling's interception of his poor first touch.

Palmer added a fifth goal for Chelsea followed by a goal from substitute Noni Madueke soon after.

Matt Crooks scored a goal for Middlesbrough, only for it to be disqualified for offside. Rogers managed to score a valid goal towards the end of the match, but victory ultimately went to Chelsea with Madness' One Step Beyond played at the sound of the final whistle.
