On Wednesday night, Chelsea managed to redeem themselves after their Christmas Eve defeat by emerging victorious over Crystal Palace with a 2-1 score at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues were represented by the youngest team they have ever put forward in the Premier League era, thanks to Mauricio Pochettino, and they seemed quite confident in their home ground return.

Although the visiting Eagles gave a tough competition, they could not keep up, and their unfortunate run against Chelsea persisted.

The away team thought they had scored their first goal in the fifth minute from Ebere Eze's free-kick. However, they shortly realized that it had hit the side-netting rather than crossing the goal post.

Ian Maatsen, the surprise starter, nearly gave Chelsea the lead after receiving a precise pass from Mykhailo Mudryk. It was Tyrick Mitchell who rescued the situation by making a last-minute clearance.

Chelsea secured their lead after Malo Gusto took on a left-to-right run after a clean pass play with Christopher Nkunku, enabling Mudryk to finish from close quarters.

Mudryk almost scored a second time in the first half from an intelligent back-heel pass from Nicolas Jackson, but Dean Henderson, the goalkeeper, denied him the opportunity.

Next, Jackson played a pass to Nkunku, but he missed the chance to score when his shot was intercepted by Chris Richards.

In the stoppage time of the first half, Palace equalized the scores. A sloppy clearance from Benoit Badiashile allowed Richards to cross the ball to Michael Olise, who easily scored a goal after escaping Levi Colwill and Moises Caicedo.

After half-time, Palace increased pressure on Chelsea when Jean-Philippe Mateta made a near post goal attempt, forcing Djordje Petrovic to make a save.

Chelsea had a chance to take the lead when Jackson got a pass from Conor Gallagher, but his shot missed the target, disappointing the crowd.

Immediately after, Jackson thought he had compensated for his miss. Following a deflection from Eze, Jackson sneaked away from Nathaniel Clyne and aimed a clean shot against Henderson. However, he was ruled offside, and the goal was disqualified.

Meanwhile, Olise, from Palace, was denied a brace twice in a row - once by Gusto and then by Petrovic.

Towards the end of the match, Chelsea was granted a penalty after the VAR found Eze had tripped Noni Madueke. Madueke took the penalty shot and scored, causing Henderson to move in the wrong direction.
