With a long-range goal from Pervis Estupinan and two penalty kicks by Joao Pedro, Brighton, in spite of their injuries, withstood a similarly depleted Tottenham during their fixture at the AMEX Stadium on Thursday night.

Brighton drew first blood after Jack Hinshelwood scored a powerful goal. Later, Joao Pedro scored from a penalty after Dejan Kulusevski was accused of pulling Danny Welbeck's shirt in the box.

Brighton solidified their lead when substitute Estupinan fired home his third Premier League goal in the 63rd minute. Spurs, although active in their attempts to penetrate Brighton's defences, were hampered by the lack of a recognised centre-back.

When Evan Ferguson was fouled by Giovani Lo Celso, Pedro took the penalty resulting in his second goal. However, Spurs gave the home fans a scare when 20-year-old Alejo Veliz made his Premier League debut by scoring in the 81st minute.

After Ben Davies scored from Pedro Porro's cross, Brighton managed to maintain their lead against Tottenham's late rally and secure all three points.

Both teams were hit with injuries, but the first ever managerial face-off between Roberto De Zerbi and Ange Postecoglou was an open style game.

Tottenham enjoyed a positive start but Brighton soon tested Guglielmo Vicario in goal multiple times, with the Italian successfully blocking Danny Welbeck's shots.

Tottenham's weaker defence conceded a second Premier League goal to Hinshelwood in the 11th minute. Pedro skilfully eluded defenders and secured the goal for the 18-year-old, which was too powerful for Vicario's stop.

After hitting the post, Brighton had the chance to make it 2-0. Welbeck was denied a goal by Kulusevski's shirt foul. Pedro then smoothly scored from the penalty spot, with Vicario diving the wrong way.

Brighton put the pressure on Spurs, thoroughly silencing their initial momentum. James Milner almost scored his first for Brighton, but his shot was deflected by the post.

The visitors had some opportunity but failed to make it count within the first 45 minutes. On the other end, Facundo Buonanotte almost scored Brighton's third but was declared offside.

Porro nearly had a disastrous first half due to a misplaced backward pass intercepted by Pedro. However, Pedro was unable to capitalize and his shot was parried by Vicario.

With Richarlison's shot hitting the post, Tottenham's chance at a fourth consecutive win was all but gone by half-time.

The second half was initiated with Brighton taking three consecutive corners. Son Heung-min then passed to Richarlison, who narrowly missed his shot.

Brighton's game slipped after halftime allowing Tottenham to apply pressure. Kulusevski provided Destiny Udogie with a chance but both his attempts were blocked by Brighton.

Richarlison's goal was disallowed due to offside, before Estupinan positioned Brighton dominantly by scoring a powerful goal.

Tottenham's woes worsened when substitute Lo Celso fouled Ferguson. Pedro capitalized by scoring his second penalty kick.

Tottenham did have a glimmer of hope towards the end when Veliz scored his first goal since his summer transfer.

Brighton appeared shaky at the end of the game, allowing Tottenham to lessen their lead. It was a moment of uncertainty when Porro's right-sided cross was met with hesitation from Jason Steele and Lewis Dunk and Davies scored.

Pierre Emile-Hojberg narrowly missed making it 4-3 when his shot hit the post. However, Brighton survived nine minutes of added time and brought the point difference down to six.
