Bayern Munich narrowly defeated Manchester United in a thrilling Champions League match on Wednesday night, taking an early lead in Group A.

The opening goal came from a mistake by Andre Onana, which gifted Leroy Sane a goal in the first half. Serge Gnabry then doubled Bayern's lead. Rasmus Hojlund managed to score his first goal for United early in the second half, but Harry Kane's goal for Bayern seemed to seal the victory for the home team.

Casemiro gave United hope when he scored from close range, making it 3-2, but substitute Mathys Tel quickly restored Bayern's two-goal lead. Casemiro scored again late in the game to bring the score to 4-3, but United ran out of time.

Bayern struggled to find their rhythm in the early stages of the game. Christian Eriksen had the first chance for United, but his shot was saved by Sven Ulreich. Marcus Rashford also had a shot saved by the Bayern goalkeeper.

Bayern began to threaten more as the first half progressed. Sane scored the opening goal with a quick shot from the edge of the box, but it was a mistake by Onana that allowed the ball to slip through his grasp.

Despite being the better team initially, United couldn't recover after conceding the first goal. Gnabry extended Bayern's lead after a skillful play by Jamal Musiala.

Hojlund's goal gave United some hope, but Kane quickly restored Bayern's lead. The referee initially didn't award a penalty for a handball by Eriksen, but VAR intervention led to a consultation and Kane scored from the spot.

Bayern had several more chances to score, with Sane hitting the post and Onana making several saves. Casemiro scored a late goal for United, but Tel's goal extinguished any hope of a comeback. Casemiro scored again in injury time, but there was not enough time left for United to equalize.

In terms of player ratings, Sven Ulreich made early saves to keep United at bay but could have done better with Hojlund's goal. Konrad Laimer did not have the pace to deal with Rashford but showed good work ethic. Dayot Upamecano defended well and swept up behind Laimer when needed. Kim Min-jae had good ball control but his team still conceded three goals. Alphonso Davies used the ball well and prevented United from creating chances. Joshua Kimmich had a slow start but controlled the game once Bayern took the lead. Leon Goretzka did not give the ball away and made it difficult for United to build attacks. Leroy Sane scored a somewhat fortunate goal and hit the post.
