Who could have predicted that Chelsea would play such a pivotal role in the current Premier League season?

Despite underperforming for most of this season, The Blues maintained their improving form with a committed and energetic display that resulted in a 1-1 draw against Manchester City, who are now ranked third behind Arsenal and the leading Liverpool.

The story could have been quite different for City had Erling Haaland, who is normally reliable, not missed a prime opportunity by sending his early header significantly wide.

Against Haaland, Colwill looked out of his depth. However, it should be noted that facing Haaland would make anyone appear clumsy.

A golden opportunity was then squandered by Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson, who, despite finding himself at the end of a counter, was unable to get his shot past Ederson.

There's no doubt that Jackson has potential, but it is becoming increasingly frustrating to watch him miss chances like this.

Raheem Sterling also missed his own opportunity on the counter, but as half-time approached, he made amends with a beautiful strike.

Sterling cut inside Kyle Walker and shot past Ederson, who had otherwise been outstanding, to put Chelsea in front.

It was regrettable to see Trent's poor defense for this Sterling goal.

Having played with Sterling for several years, Walker's inability to anticipate Sterling's right-footed shot was evident in his failed defense.

Sterling had a chance to double Chelsea's lead early in the second half, but Ederson's excellent goalkeeping spoiled the fun.

Ederson managed to block Sterling's point-blank shot before immediately returning to his feet to deflect Ben Chilwell's follow-up attempt, allowing City to clear.

Ederson's remarkable saves kept City afloat.

Ederson's saves are oddly what's keeping City in the game.

As the final whistle approached, City seemed destined for defeat with Haaland missing another spectacular headed opportunity following a fine cross from Kevin De Bruyne.

This led to suggestions that Haaland should be sold to Madrid and Mbappe should be brought in.

Rasmus appeared to have completely flummoxed Haaland.

Haaland seemed to be moving similar to Darwin.

However, when City needed him the most, Rodri rose to the occasion with a powerful shot that found its way into the back of Djordje Petrovic's net, securing a draw for the reigning champions.

Rodri's reliability in clutch situations was noted.

It seems Rodri is always the one to step up.

The result leaves City third in Premier League. Arsenal is now two points ahead but with an extra game played. Meanwhile, front-runners Liverpool have a four-point lead, having also played an additional game, and are in a strong position to claim the title.

This is a significant setback for City, considering their upcoming matches against Liverpool and Arsenal.
