Victoria Coren Mitchell Welcomes Daughter with David Mitchell, Exploring the Meaning Behind Their 'Youthful' Baby Name
Victoria Coren Mitchell, a renowned BBC personality, has announced the birth of her second child with comedian David Mitchell, also revealing the baby's charming name.
Well known as the 51-year-old presenter of Only Connect, Victoria announced the exciting news on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
This Wednesday, Victoria's post read: 'Many people assume that my tweet yesterday was about a Halloween costume. However, the real reason is that I gave birth last week and currently, the only thing that fits me are cloaks. Thankfully, Only Connect is pre-recorded. Wishing everyone a Happy All Saints Day.'
Victoria and David have decided to name their little girl June Violet.
The Times newspaper also confirmed the happy news through a birth announcement: 'MITCHELL on 26th June October 2023 to Victoria and David, a birth of a daughter, June Violet, also a sibling for Barbara.'
The name June, originating from Latin, is gender-neutral and translates to 'young,' The Bump explains.
'The name June traces its roots to the summer month, which in turn is named after Juno, a powerful Roman goddess regarded as the protector of marriage and childbirth.'
The television couple's affection for the name may be due to its sentimental value; their older daughter is named Barbara Elizabeth June Mitchell.
Moreover, the middle name of their newborn, Violet, is derived from the Latin word viola, meaning “purple.”
The name Violet is primarily given to girls and is well-liked in the literary and media communities, featuring in famous stories like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, and Disney’s The Incredibles.
Victoria and David Mitchell, who is 49, first encountered each other in 2007 at a movie premiere, thanks to comedian David Baddiel.
Victoria once revealed, 'He explicitly advised me, 'You should probably marry David Mitchell over there, I'll initiate the process by introducing you two.''
In his 2012 autobiography, Back Story, Victoria's spouse David noted, 'I was almost certain that she was flirting with me, but I was apprehensive to trust my instincts as it seemed too good to be true.'
Although they had an immediate connection, their first date didn't occur until 2010 due to Victoria losing her father.
David admitted in a discussion with The Guardian, 'Honestly, I despise the notion of dating. It's just painfully awkward… I don't dislike being single enough to endure that.'
However, he was merely being patient before making his move on Victoria.
'I waited for three years. How curious is that? Am I unusual? I can't elaborate apart from saying that I couldn't do anything else,' he asserted.
In 2015, the couple welcomed their daughter Barbara, who is now seven, and they all reside together in Kilburn, northwest London.
