Premier League: Ranking the Missed Big Chances by Teams Before the November International Break
Scoring goals is considered the most challenging part of football. Performances vary greatly among footballers, with some being excellent at scoring goals (like Erling Haaland), and others being quite poor at it (such as Jamie Carragher, who scored three goals in 508 Premier League appearances), with this proficiency often playing a substantial role in their team's league successes from one year to another.
During the November international break, we at 90min examined how effectively each Premier League team has converted their opportunities this season, ranking them from least to most missed chances.
Here are some notable teams: Crystal Palace, who have missed nine big chances and scored a total of 12 goals, owe their efficient conversion ratio to Odsonne Edouard's outstanding form. Sheffield United, despite having a 50% big chance conversion rate, find themselves in the relegation zone due to their poor defense. Despite being the lowest scorers in the Premier League this season, a team like this should focus on generating more opportunities. Then there's Arsenal, who with only 12 big chances missed, show lethal precision in front of the goal, netting 26 goals in total.
Some teams struggle more than others. For instance, Marcus Rashford's miserable 2.2% shot conversion rate this season contributes to a woeful performance shown by his team, who missed 20 big chances and scored only 13 goals. Then there's Everton, who after missing 22 big chances and only scoring 14 goals, are definitely having a rough season.
Finally, the unpredictability of football performances are best represented by Erling Haaland. Despite missing the most chances in the Premier League this season, he has also scored the most goals. Indeed, football is full of paradoxes.
