Possible rewrite: Potential signings Sir Jim Ratcliffe could bring to Manchester United
The Old Trafford saga involving Manchester United is finally coming to a close, although it’s not the complete takeover fans had hoped. Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS have officially secured a 25% stake in Manchester United, a deal confirmed on Christmas Eve. The long-term goal for Ratcliffe is to gain full control of United.
At 70 years of age, Ratcliffe carries with him a vast range of experience and contacts from the upper echelons of sport. His foray into the world of football came as the owner of French side, OGC Nice.
OGC Nice is performing well in this year's Ligue 1, sitting in second place and now under the leadership of Roberto De Zerbi's discipline, Francesco Farioli.
Should Ratcliffe succeed in securing United, who might he bring over from Nice? 90min takes a look.
One player who has caught United's interest is the French international, Jean-Clair Todibo.
Football fans and experts might remember Todibo as Barcelona's fleeting hope. He made five appearances for the team between 2019 and 2021 and was loaned out three times before ultimately signing with Nice.
Todibo has been part of a successful team with Arsenal loanee William Saliba at the Allianz Riviera, where he has made a name for himself as an assertive centre-back for his country.
90min reported in August that United had Todibo on their radar should they decide to move on Harry Maguire, but for now, he remains a staple at Old Trafford.
Lillian's son and the younger brother of Marcus, Khephren Thuram, is also riding the waves of success in football.
Thuram, a uniquely stylish and tall box-to-box midfielder, has caught the eye of some of Europe's largest clubs.
Although United seems to be well loaded in the midfield, if they ever need another towering midfielder, they would likely consider Thuram.
We might be projecting here, but Marcin Bulka’s record of 17 appearances for Nice is noteworthy.
Though slightly inexperienced, Bulka has shown he's a top-notch goalkeeper in Ligue 1 so far, contributing to 12 clean sheets and saving two penalties from Folarin Balogun to secure a significant victory over rivals Monaco.
Having spent three years with Chelsea's youth team, Bulka's also a homegrown option for any English team. This fact might get the gears turning for Football Manager devotees keen on team management.
One player who has had a non-traditional path to stardom is Terem Moffi from Nigeria.
After leaving Nigeria at 17, Moffi struggled to make it in England, but managed to reboot his career in Lithuania. This was followed by a move to Belgium with Kortrijk, and for the past three years he's been making his mark in France with Lorient and Nice.
90min reported in January that Premier League clubs were showing interest in Moffi before his move to the Mediterranean coast.
If United is looking for a physically imposing player to deputise for Rasmus Hojlund, Moffi could well be their choice, as shown in his handling of Paris Saint-Germain teams.
