Liz Cheney, a three-term US representative, recognized as the third highest ranking Republican in the House, the offspring of a previous Republican VP, and a staunch conservative, committed what was viewed as an unpardonable mistake in the eyes of the GOP: she voted to impeach Donald Trump for his role in instigating an uprising on January 6, 2021. After she not only declined to apologize but also persistently vocalized her opinion that Trump is a significant threat to democracy, she was removed from her leadership role. Her position as vice chair of the January 6 committee probably finalized her loss of her House seat to Harriet Hageman, a convert to Trump's "Make America Great Again" movement.

Having left Congress in January, Cheney has continued to highlight the potential danger posed by Trump. In her new book, Oath and Honor, she sharply criticizes her ex-colleagues for continuing to support Trump. Some specific details from a copy of her yet-to-be-published book that CNN obtained include:

Cheney conveys that on the day of the uprising, GOP congress members were encouraged to record their names on electoral vote objection sheets for each state whose results the party tried to block. Cheney states that most people were aware that these actions were mere formalities and demonstrations of loyalty to Trump. She mentions Republican Congressman Mark Green of Tennessee, who allegedly commented, “The things we do for the Orange Jesus.”

A spokesman for Green has denied that he made such a statement, terming Cheney's allegation as false.

The 43rd president did not publicly state his opinion concerning Trump's second impeachment. According to Cheney, he sent her a message of support following her vote.

Cheney mentions that a GOP colleague, a former Ohio State wrestling coach, was skeptical of the legal process for challenging the 2020 election results and allegedly told her that “The only thing that matters is winning.”

Cheney discloses that McCarthy informed her two days post-Election Day that he had talked to Trump and that Trump was aware he had lost the 2020 election.

Cheney alleges that when McCarthy endorsed Trump's victory on Fox News the same day, he was well aware his proclamation was untrue.

A representative for McCarthy responded to Cheney's accusations, insinuating that she was suffering from “McCarthy Derangement Syndrome”.

Although Cheney's book was completed prior to Mike Johnson taking over as House Speaker, she insightfully documented details about his attempt to reverse the election results. Cheney states that whenever she confronted him regarding the deficiencies in his legal arguments, he would often capitulate or suggest something along the lines of “We just need to do this one last thing for Trump.”

Cheney shares an incident during the House lockdown on January 6. She recounts that “Jim Jordan approached me,” and said, “We need to get the ladies off the aisle,” while extending his hand. Cheney claims their interaction went as follows: “Let me help you.” To which she replied, “Get away from me. You f—ing did this.”

Jordan’s spokesperson insists the exchange did not occur.

A number of people were genuinely disgusted by an image of Kevin McCarthy visiting Mar-a-Lago less than a month after the January 6 incident in a display of allegiance to Trump. Yet, Cheney offers even more disturbing details regarding McCarthy.

Cheney describes her disbelief when she discovered McCarthy, who feared losing his fundraising ability, visited Trump in secret at Mar-a-Lago less than a month after the January 6 assault. She initially believed the image of both men in a friendly pose was fabricated and was amazed at McCarthy’s justification of the visit. He asserted he was called upon by Trump's staff.
