The Euro 2024 football tournament is fast approaching, sparking a high deal of anticipation and expectance.

The event offers a grand stage for Europe's stellar footballers to compete for team triumphs and also secure their place in the 2024 Ballon d'Or votes.

In the build-up to the tournament, 90min will launch its new series, 24 for 24, which aims to highlight and rank the top players, upcoming talents, and teams performing this summer.

A great way to initiate the series could be profiling the 24th through to the 20th top players set to grace the Euro 2024. Let the games begin...

Country: Portugal

Ruben Dias, Manchester City's centre-back, has proven his prowess with multiple wins at club level over the past few years, amassing nine medals in the last four seasons. His exceptional performance earned him the FWA Footballer of the Year title in 2021, marking the first time a defender has clinched this award in the Premier League era.

Now 27, Dias will be striving for international glory this summer in Germany, hoping to emulate his club-level victories. With a strong partnership with veteran Pepe in Portugal's defence, he may very well succeed.

Country: Spain

Many are surprised to see Dani Olmo still playing for RB Leipzig. But Euro 2024 could turn this around, possibly marking his transition to one of Europe's leading clubs. The 26-year-old has consistently shown his worth in Spain's international matches. He is expected once again to be a critical player for Luis de la Fuente's team.

Country: Germany

Joshua Kimmich, just a few years ago, was widely considered among the top five footballers globally. Despite a recent decline in his ranking, mainly due to his disputes with former Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel, Kimmich remains an essential part of the German team.

Kimmich's performance is likely to thrill, whether he plays as a right-back or shines as a central midfielder.

Country: England

The term 'starboy' is often used freely, but it’s a well-earned title for England's Bukayo Saka.

If Saka plays to his peak potential, he might emerge as a top contender for the player of the tournament in Euro 2024. The 22-year old has stood out with his consistently superior performance in the Premier League, and is anticipated to make a significant difference in Gareth Southgate's English side.

Country: Portugal

Despite his age, Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the greatest footballers ever, remains one of the best performers on the big international stage. Following a stunning season where he netted 50 goals in 51 matches for Al Nassr, Ronaldo holds high hopes for a second European Championship victory. His first win was in 2016 when Portugal secured a surprise victory over France, with Ronaldo cheering from the sidelines.

If Ronaldo manages to clinch the championship, it would be a fitting finale to his remarkable international career.
