John Mayer Receives Prayers from Taylor Swift's Former Flame Taylor Lautner During 'Speak Now' Album Launch
Putting jokes aside, Taylor Lautner, known for his role in Twilight and for being Taylor Swift’s ex-boyfriend, recently made a comment about John Mayer regarding Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), the re-recorded version of Swift’s 2010 album.
“I think it’s a great album. Yeah, I feel safe,” said the 31-year-old actor to TODAY.com on May 16. “Praying for John.”
However, Lautner later clarified that his comment may not have been the wisest thing to say. “I was definitely joking, but clearly it’s taken off,” he mentioned on the following day on The Happy Hour on TODAY Show Radio on SiriusXM.
Even Lautner’s wife, also named Taylor Lautner, decided to join in on the fun by sharing a funny video of her husband on TikTok with the caption “#PrayforJohn.” In the video, Lautner is seen slowly entering the frame in a white hotel robe and getting down on his knees to pray, while Swift’s “Dear John” plays in the background.
On Wednesday’s radio show, Lautner talked about his wife’s post, saying, “She’s like, ‘That’s gonna trigger the Swifties, or I mean, they were supportive of it.’ I personally think John is a very talented musician, but I am aware of a couple songs that were on that album.”
It’s worth mentioning that Lautner and Swift dated briefly in 2009, after meeting on the set of their film Valentine’s Day. Following their split, Swift moved on with John Mayer but their relationship ended after 2 months. Swift seemingly wrote “Dear John” about their relationship, although she never confirmed it. In an interview with Rolling Stone in 2012, Mayer claimed the lyrics of the song made him “feel terrible.”
The re-recorded version of Speak Now will include six previously unreleased songs from the vault and will be released on July 7.
