Pete Davidson Credits His Mom for Supporting His Sobriety Journey

Pete Davidson has been sober for over a year and a half and has a special family member to thank for that.
The 31-year-old admitted on the “This Past Weekend w/ Theo Von” podcast that before he got sober, some of the people he was closest to began to drift away from him.
“It got to the point where people I f****** loved (started to leave me),” Davidson said, opening up about those dark days.
The comedian also shared the pivotal role his mother, Amy Davidson played in his journey. “My mom’s the most supportive person in the world,” he said. “It got to a point where she called me when I was in rehab and said, ‘My biggest fear is that I will turn on the news and see that my son has died,’” he continued.
“That killed me. So I was like, ‘Alright, can’t die until she’s dead,’ Davidson added. “I’d have to be a heartless, f****** sociopath to not get my s*** together.”
As reported by TODAY, Davidson entered rehab in 2023 following an incident in March, when he crashed his car into a home and subsequently faced a misdemeanor reckless driving charge.
With that all in the past, Davidson is now expecting his first child with girlfriend, model Elsie Hewitt.
The comedian is “thrilled” about becoming a father and is thankful to be sober for over a year. “But there was no f****** way that (becoming a parent) was possible (before I got sober),” he added.
“I’m really grateful it happened now — and I wasn’t looking for a relationship or… obviously I wanted to, but I wasn’t looking to have a baby. And it all just kind of happened at once and it’s been awesome,” he concluded.
On Wednesday, July 16, Hewitt confirmed the news of her pregnancy through a series of photos on Instagram.
The 29-year-old also included a clip of the adorable moment the couple saw their little one. “Welp now everyone knows we had sex,” she joked in the caption.
