‘My Brazilian Butt Lift in Essex Nearly Cost Me My Life’ - OK! Magazine
Hair stylist Louise Moller was overcome with emotion as she recounted her harrowing experience following a liquid Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedure. The 27 year old, inspired by the curvaceous figures of celebrities like Kim Kardashian, underwent the treatment at an Essex clinic last November. However, instead of achieving her dream body, Louise found herself in a life-threatening situation, requiring emergency NHS surgery and enduring months of nurse visits for dressing changes.
Speaking to ITV, Louise shared her ordeal: 'I got told this procedure was not painful, it's definitely painful. I screamed and said 'that really hurt'. When I left the pain wasn't going away.' Post-procedure, she noticed redness and heat emanating from the injection site. Despite reaching out to the clinic, she was only prescribed antibiotics. Her condition worsened with a rising fever and vomiting episodes, reports the Mirror.
A mere four days after receiving the fillers, Louise collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. There, a surgeon informed her that she had been injected with 'air bubbles' and was suffering from an infection.
She recalled the terrifying moment: 'They said the clinic 'had blocked the blood supply to my bum so my skin tissue started to die'.'
In a tearful interview, Louise revealed the dire warning from the medical team: 'He said I 'have sepsis' and he needed to operate in 20 minutes or unless I wasn't going to be here no more. At this point he couldn't tell me what he was going to cut off.'
The issue also moved a surgeon to tears when ITVX showed him footage of the training provided in the UK for those wishing to carry out these 'non surgical' Brazilian Butt Lifts. The cosmetic world is abuzz with the latest trend where beauticians across the UK are swapping traditional fat injections for hefty doses of filler to enhance clients' derrieres.
ITVX's undercover investigation at a London-based clinic, operating from a semi-detached house, has laid bare the shocking training provided to those looking to offer non-surgical Brazilian Butt Lifts (BBL). Dr Paul Bagley, who boasts 40 years in the field, was appalled by the footage, remarking: 'The environment is totally unacceptable...some of them have gloves on and some don't.'
He expressed his disgust further, saying: 'It's probably one of the most horrible videos I've seen, that's just horrible.'
Dr Bagley was particularly taken aback upon witnessing a syringe left protruding from a patient's buttock, completely unmonitored.
In response to the growing concerns, Save Face initiated a campaign last year to outlaw high-risk liquid BBL treatments, describing them as a 'crisis waiting to happen'. Although the previous Government began a consultation, it was halted due to the election.
Advocates are now pushing for a licensing system for non-surgical cosmetic procedures.
Among the proposed regulatory measures is a traffic light system, which would classify non-surgical cosmetic procedures based on their risk level, with red, amber, and green indicators. Under this system, practitioners would need an appropriate licence to carry out procedures marked amber or red.
