The agent of Mohamed Salah, Egyptian football star, has reported that the player's injury is more severe than initially assumed, indicating he may be out of play for nearly a month. This development endangers Salah's participation in the remaining matches of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Salah, who is a forward for Liverpool, strained a muscle during a 2-2 AFCON match against Ghana and has returned to his club for treatment.

The Egyptian FA previously specified that he would be absent for the next two games, including their last group stage match and a potential last-16 game. Jurgen Klopp, the Reds manager, later proposed that Salah might recover just in time for the final.

Ramy Abbas Issa, Salah's agent, shared on Twitter, 'Mohamed's injury is more severe than first thought. He will be out for 21-28 days, and not just 2 games.

'The greatest opportunity for him to get back into the current AFCON is through intensive rehabilitation in the UK. He will rejoin the team as soon as he's fit.'

The AFCON final is scheduled in less than three weeks on Sunday 11 February. If the Pharaohs make it to the final in Abidjan, Salah will have a challenging feat ahead to recover in time.

Egypt has a task ahead to secure their place at the knockout stages. They've drawn both of their group stage matches 2-2 so far. Winning against Group B leaders Cape Verde would confirm their advancement. However, the match between Ghana and Mozambique could affect Egypt's position if either team surpasses them.

Liverpool, despite Salah's provisional exit, has triumphed in all three matches with an impressive total score of 8-1. They've achieved victories over Arsenal and Fulham in the cup and established a five-point lead in Premier League standings.
