Mikel Arteta Issues Warning to Aaron Ramsdale Regarding Potential Arsenal Departure in January
Aaron Ramsdale has been advised by Mikel Arteta to be patient in his journey to regain his position as Arsenal's primary goalkeeper, whilst disregarding the prospect of leaving in January.
Earlier in the season, Ramsdale was replaced by David Raya and since early September, he has only had the opportunity to participate in two cup games. The rest of the time, he has been observing from the sidelines in both the Premier League and Champions League.
Chelsea is one of the teams keeping an eye on Ramsdale's scenario at Arsenal. Initially, the 25-year-old was content to disregard the interest and battle for his spot at the Emirates. Despite his stance remaining the same, if he continues to lack playing time leading up to Euro 2024 next summer, Ramsdale might be compelled to consider his alternatives.
On Friday, Gareth Southgate, the England manager, admitted that he could not promise Ramsdale a place in next summer's squad if he continues to be a peripheral figure.
Southgate stated: 'The truth is, if we reach March and he has not been playing on a regular basis for six months, I cannot assure anything that I cannot deliver.'
In response to Southgate's worries, Arteta urged Ramsdale not to rush his decision to depart from Arsenal in January and instead encouraged the goalkeeper to continue his fight.
'Let me start by saying that my door is always open to discuss any player,' he stated. 'We always have our players' best interests in mind and consistently work to this end, understanding that our impact can sometimes be beneficial, other times not so much.'
'However, this is a team sport that demands 24 players to perform a certain role. The role you have in August could drastically differ from the one you hold in March.'
Arteta added, 'Therefore, making hurried decisions based on my experience is never a good idea. The team has certain demands that need to be met, and these cannot be achieved with only six, ten, or even fourteen players. In other words, we need everyone, and Aaron plays a crucial role in the team.'
'I am not sending any messages to any clubs [who are interested in Ramsdale]. I can only say that I value my players greatly, I value Aaron greatly, and we definitely want Aaron to stay with us.'
