"New Injury Setback for Man Utd's Mason Mount"
Mason Mount has admitted his 'frustration' after picking up an injury which is expected to sideline him for over a month.
Mount, who saw his debut season restricted to just 20 appearances due to fitness issues, has been a starter for Manchester United in the early weeks of the season but was substituted at half-time of the 2-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion with an apparent hamstring issue.
United have confirmed Mount will miss ' a few games' because of the injury, but The Athletic estimate the midfielder will be sidelined for four to five weeks.
'During the last game I picked up a minor muscle issue,' Mount wrote in a statement also issued on social media.
'I've had it checked and it looks like I'll be out for a few games. Leading up to and during pre-season, I worked hard to get my fitness back to where it needs to be and I felt re-energised, sharp and ready.
'I wanted you to hear it directly from me how frustrated I am, as I expect you are too. I will do everything possible to be back in the best shape and help the team.'
The 2024/25 season has started in eerily similar fashion compared to 2023/24 for Mount, who suffered a hamstring injury in the second game of last season as well. He ended up missing around five weeks.
He managed close to two months back before picking up a nasty calf injury in November which kept him out until late March, after which he had to settle for brief cameos off the bench to see out the campaign.
Mount had begun this season in solid form, impressing with his work rate against both Fulham and Brighton, but the former Chelsea star joins Luke Shaw, Rasmus Hojlund, Leny Yoro, Tyrell Malacia and Victor Lindelof in the treatment room ahead of United's upcoming clash with Liverpool.
