Report: Man Utd Mulling Over Retaining Erik ten Hag
A recent report suggests that Erik ten Hag might remain as manager for Manchester United, despite previous speculations suggesting otherwise.
Prior to the FA Cup final, there were rumours that United officials had already decided to let go of Ten Hag regardless of the match's outcome at Wembley. However, following United's victory against Manchester City, securing the last available silverware of the season, these reports were put into question.
Multiple reports have since suggested that a decision on Ten Hag's tenure will not be made until a season review is conducted.
The Manchester Evening News has now reported that United hasn't dismissed the idea of retaining Ten Hag. They have reportedly informed potential replacements that there might not be an opening at Old Trafford this summer.
Ten Hag still has a year left on his contract and has the option to extend for an additional year based on his current deal.
There have been discussions with representatives of several potential replacements including Thomas Tuchel and Mauricio Pochettino, who are both currently between roles and are reported to be interested in the position at Old Trafford.
Kieran McKenna of Ipswich Town was also previously considered, but recent information from The Athletic suggests that he is expected to sign a new long-term deal with his newly promoted team.
The upcoming season review will determine Ten Hag's fate, which will assess all aspects of United, instead of focusing solely on team performance.
Reports suggest that co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe considers issues with the club's structure to be a bigger concern than Ten Hag’s performance. CEO Omar Berrada and technical director Jason Wilcox have been appointed, and there are ongoing attempts to lure Dan Ashworth from Newcastle United for the role of sporting director.
