Player ratings as Newcastle cruise into Carabao Cup quarter-finals with 3-0 win over Man Utd
In the ongoing year's Carabao Cup, Newcastle United has secured a spot in the quarterfinals by eliminating Manchester United in a glorious 3-0 victory; this conquest comes not only as a retaliation to the last season's final defeat but also places a second back-to-back home defeat on the Red Devils.
Miguel Almiron, Newcastle's outstanding first-half substitute, opened the scoring activity in less than the first half hour, which was followed not so long after by Lewis Hall scoring his premier senior football goal to further elevate the lead.
Despite showing signs of resilience during the initial moments of the second half, Manchester United's response to Newcastle's forced strength was underwhelming and it further fell apart when Magpies' Joe Willock scored a third.
Newcastle strived under the unexpected blow when Matt Targett was injured, initiating a quick substitution by Miguel Almiron. Despite the unforeseen circumstance, Almiron managed to score the first goal which shook the Red Devils.
The match, which in the beginning saw limited noteworthy player opportunities, saw Miguel Almiron owing his first goal to the junior player, Tino Livramento. Livramento’s excellent ball-handling skills led to a mighty run forward and a well-timed pass to Almiron adding significantly to the score.
The Newcastle fans were quite vocal with their praises for Tino and their chants of impending doom for Ten Hag, Manchester's manager, heightened the already strained atmosphere. A well-coordinated play resulted in yet another scoring opportunity which was seized by Newcastle, when Harry Maguire was only partially successful in obstructing Newcastle's pass into the box and Hall took full advantage to score the second goal.
The Reds, who were previously liable for a string of composite misses, in an attempt to build pressure on the Magpies, were met with an aggressive block by Tino, halting their right to attack. Eager to repair their damage, Ten Hag introduced Aaron Wan-Bissaka after his return and Sofyan Amrabat. The Devils, now seemingly in control, were immediately faced with another setback when Willock scored the third for Newcastle.
With the impending defeat against Newcastle and a considerable increase in score, Manchester's morale came crashing down. Despite Sean Longstaff's commendable efforts to finish the match with another goal, the attempts were futile. Manchester United will now be looking for answers, coming to terms with another disappointing loss. Newcastle, however, continues to rejoice at the prospect of achieving their first significant victory since 1969.
