Luton Town have announced that their captain, Tom Lockyer, experienced a cardiac arrest during their Saturday showdown with Bournemouth.

The match was halted after the 29-year-old Lockyer, who also collapsed in last season's Championship play-off final, fell just after half-time, when the score was level at 1-1. He was subsequently stretchered off the field.

'Luton's medics have confirmed the on-field cardiac arrest of our captain, but by the time he was being taken off on the stretcher, he was responsive,' read a statement from Luton.

'He received additional treatment within the stadium, for which we extend our thanks to the medical teams of both clubs once again.

'Tom was moved to hospital, where we can assure fans that his condition is stable and he is currently undergoing additional tests, with his family by his side. We want to express our gratitude for the support, concern, and heartwarming messages we've received for Locks.'

The players from both teams were guided off the pitch shortly after Lockyer's collapse. Approximately thirty minutes later, it was announced that they would not be coming back to play.

'We apologize to all spectators present that the players from both teams were not in the right frame of mind to carry on with the match after witnessing their friend and colleague taken off the field in such a manner and the staff were unable to continue managing the match under such conditions', Luton expressed after the match.

There hasn't been any confirmation so far about when the match will restart or if it would resume from the point where it was stopped on Saturday.
