Despite Levi Colwill, Chelsea defender, signing a new contract with the club last summer, Liverpool continue to keep a close watch on him, according to a source close to 90min. The contract, which is set to expire in 2029, was signed after Colwill's successful loan to Brighton & Hove Albion during the 2022/23 season.

Liverpool was interested in Colwill after his stint at Brighton, where he helped the team achieve a club record by finishing in the Premier League's sixth place. Despite interest from Brighton and Liverpool for a permanent transfer, Colwill chose to renew his contract with Chelsea for six more years, with an option for another year.

Insiders disclosed to 90min that Liverpool continues to admire Colwill and is waiting for a potential opportunity to snatch him from Chelsea. Liverpool has been following Colwill's progress since his loan days at Huddersfield Town, however, Chelsea is not considering selling the 20-year-old defender, envisaging him as a potential future captain. Colwill led the team in their 2-1 loss against Manchester United last month.

The Blues are firm on their decision not to place a price tag on Colwill, even if they are pressed with financial constraints in 2024. Chelsea sees him as an indispensable asset, not up for sale, regardless of potential buyers.

Despite the unwavering support from Chelsea, fans have expressed concerns about Colwill playing left-back instead of his preferred center-back position after 16 appearances in that role. If this continues, there may be a possibility of Colwill wanting to return to his natural position, potentially sparking his departure from Chelsea. Colwill has his sights set on becoming England's center-back for Euro 2024 following his impressive play in the Under-21 European Championship last summer.

Despite any offers, Chelsea is inclined to reject any offers for Colwill.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have their summer plans lined up which might involve two new center-backs - a seasoned player and a future prospective. The club has shown interest in Bayer Leverkusen's Jonathan Tah and younger prospects such as Telleres' Kevin Mantilla and Facundo Gonzalez, who is currently on loan at Sampdoria from Juventus.
