Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool's manager, confessed that he was taken aback by the injury Mohamed Salah sustained during the Africa Cup of Nations.

Salah, aged 31, suffered from an injury just before Egypt's match with Ghana ended in a 2-2 tie. Despite appearing in pain and holding his hamstring, Liverpool's leading scorer this season managed to walk off the field on his own.

Salah's injury will be further investigated through tests, and Klopp is currently awaiting additional details. Klopp shared his views in a press conference preceding the Premier League game against Bournemouth on Sunday.

He stated: 'We're unaware of the full situation. I had a conversation with him yesterday, and as is the norm with such injuries, a more extensive evaluation is required. That's what's happening at the moment, and we'll soon have more information.'

Klopp revealed his first response to Salah's condition: 'Naturally, there was immediate shock. I found myself wondering what the matter was.'

'You wouldn't say it looked as though he had been struck by a high-intensity projectile, there was no obvious sign of injury. However, when he subsequently collapsed, it did resemble a typical hamstring injury. It's very rare for Mo to withdraw or be substituted, so it's definitely serious. We're awaiting further details.'

In the case that Liverpool decides to send their own medical experts to evaluate Salah's condition, the manager commented: 'We'll see how things progress, it will depend on the diagnosis. An ultrasound and MRI have been scheduled, after which we'll have more accurate picture, and then we'll see what Egypt has planned. But it's too soon to decide.'

Salah, currently the leading scorer of the Premier League season with 14 goals, is on par with Manchester City's Erling Haaland. Salah, who's also provided eight assists for his team, has helped Liverpool rank first after 20 games, despite a 2-1 loss against Tottenham Hotspur. Luis Diaz's goal was wrongly dismissed due to an error by VAR during that game.

It's unclear whether Salah will assist Liverpool in securing their second Premier League title in four years. However, he has been identified as a primary prospect for the wealthy Saudi Pro League by 90min. Al Ittihad tried to entice Salah away from Anfield unsuccessfully in August. However, it's anticipated that Al Hilal, also financed by PIF, may join the bidding this coming summer.
