Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp Announces Significant Injury Concern Prior to Arsenal Showdown
Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool's manager, has affirmed that a last-minute fitness check will be conducted on forward Darwin Nunez before their crucial match versus Arsenal on Sunday.
Nunez, a player from Uruguay who boasts of three goals and two assists in his most recent four Premier League matches, has compensated for the loss of star winger Mohamed Salah who's out due to a hamstring injury from the Africa Cup of Nations. Salah's injury will prevent him from playing for quite a few weeks.
During the midweek match against Chelsea, Nunez's spectacular performance caught everyone's attention, despite having hit the post four times. Klopp further disclosed that Nunez was battling an injury while playing, causing some alarm among the medical staff.
'I'm not certain whether Darwin will be able to play or not--someone had stepped on his foot after just 20 minutes of play,' Klopp shared. 'It was quite painful after the match.'
'He removed his boot only post-match as he didn't want to look at his foot beforehand. He knew something was up.'
'He left the stadium wearing a boot, but it wasn't a football boot. Nothing has fractured; the x-ray is clear--it is just swollen. We have to see if he's able to wear a football boot yet. It is a process and will require time. As of this morning, I haven't seen him so we will have to wait a bit longer.'
In the event Nunez is unable to recuperate in time for the match, it's likely that Klopp will bring back Cody Gakpo to the starting lineup. He will play with Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota, who both scored in the overwhelming 4-1 victory over Chelsea.
Jota has been notably appreciated lately, and according to Klopp, the 27-year-old possesses everything needed to excel in the Premier League.
'Jota has it all,' the manager stated. 'He's a complete player, and everyone—including he himself—is aware of this. Though he has had a few untimely injuries and has suffered numerous hits during every game, he has never been too 'injured' to play.'
'Whenever I see medical reports since Diogo has been signed up, I often find minor injuries being reported. If he hadn't been out so often, his performance records would've looked much different.'
'He was in great form before the injury and has returned in the same physical condition—almost soaring. He appears light, resilient, and highly energetic.'
'Moreover, he's an incredibly intelligent player. When it comes to countries providing astute players despite not being large in size, Portugal comes to mind. The quality of players and footballers supplied to the football industry relative to its population is remarkable. Their players are truly unique.'
