In the wake of Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Manchester City, Jurgen Klopp found himself having to intervene between Darwin Nunez and Pep Guardiola. Despite this, both managers minimised the event after the match.

Following the opening goal from Erling Haaland, Liverpool turned the game around with a low shot from Trent Alexander-Arnold, making Haaland the quickest player to achieve 50 Premier League goals. Consequently, both teams remain only a point apart in the league standings. Manchester City faced further frustration as a goal from Ruben Dias was disallowed when they were leading 1-0.

Soon after the final whistle, attention was drawn to an argument between Nunez and Guardiola. Klopp and other Liverpool coaching staff had to step in and mediate the situation.

'Frankly, I’m not certain I should be the one explaining matters, particularly as I was not directly involved!' exclaimed Klopp during his post-match interview. 'I am fond of both parties, so I attempted to defuse the situation, despite not being fully aware of the details as I didn’t understand what was being said. Nevertheless, I believe the situation has been rectified. The game was tense; Pep aimed for victory, as did we. Both teams didn’t win, which is likely why tempers flared.'

In his address to the press, Guardiola also dismissed the event. “Nothing to report,” he claimed. “Klopp is more formidable than me. Nothing occurred. It’s not about frustration. I’m quite satisfied. If you chose to focus on that as your second press conference question, you won’t be in my good graces. I might answer such a query as the final question, but nothing took place.'

Klopp expressed satisfaction during his BBC Sport interview, citing that, while not exceptional, his team did enough to secure a valuable point from a challenging match at the Etihad Stadium.

'Had we performed better, we might have won. It’s exceptionally difficult playing here which isn’t surprising given their consistent string of home victories. Manchester City is an extraordinary team,' he commented.

'Whenever we got into our stride, we created opportunities. Did this happen often enough? No. Could we improve? Definitely. But for today, the experience was extremely important for the team.

'It has been a demanding week for the players. Subsequently, facing a team that really challenges you is not ideal. Despite the challenge of remaining in the game, we had our moments which I appreciate greatly. I am completely satisfied with the point we earned.'
