Jonnie Irwin, the host of A Place In The Sun, has tragically passed away at the age of 50 following a three-year battle with lung cancer.

The beloved TV presenter was diagnosed with advanced stage cancer in 2020, a fact he confidentially kept until 2022, at which point he revealed his condition to his followers for the first time.

During the period that ensued, he continuously posted about his treatment progress and pledged to dedicate as much time as he could to his young family.

He leaves behind his wife Jessica and their three young children; Rex, and twins Rafa and Cormac.

In November 2022, he informed his fans about his terminal lung cancer, which he found out about in 2020.

The TV host disclosed that he was given a six-month life expectancy in 2020.

While filming for Channel 4's A Place in the Sun in Italy, Jonnie recounted experiencing blurred vision during his drives; ‘Within a week of returning from filming, I was informed of my six-month prognosis.'

He added, 'In only a matter of days, I went from feeling perfectly fine to receiving a terminal diagnosis.'

The TV host also noted that while driving, he noticed 'squares' appearing in his vision. He was asked to seek medical help by the show's sound engineer.

'I was keen on finishing the shoot, but after a series of tests and a hospital visit the following day, I was told about the six-month prognosis.' He was completely unaware of his lung cancer situation up until then.

The cancer nodules had developed and proliferated without causing any symptoms, reaching his lymph nodes and starting to compress his brain. Initially, he was given a 'miracle drug' upon hearing he only had half a year left to live, but sadly the aggressive cancer surprised even the doctors when it came back.

According to the NHS, the primary symptoms of lung cancer are followed by some less common ones:
