The First Time They Had Sex Made John Lennon's Ex, May Pang, Cry: Reveals Pang.
A dream came true for May Pang in 1973 when she, a lifelong Beatles fan, began dating former Beatle John Lennon amid a break in his marriage to Yoko Ono. However, the beginning of their relationship was not without anxiety for the then-23-year-old, as Pang tearfully revealed the first time they slept together. Despite Lennon being ten years her senior and already married, they embarked on an 18-month whirlwind romance from 1973 to 1975, later called Lennon’s “lost weekend.” Though their relationship blossomed into love, its origins were unconventional. Ono suggested Pang fill a gap in their marriage; Pang initially refused before Lennon charmed her, and the two moved in together in New York City in 1974.
Lennon loved exploring and particularly enjoyed bonding with Pang over music, playing with former Beatles bandmates Paul McCartney and George Harrison. However, Ono’s presence was a constant reminder that their relationship had an uncertain future. Although Lennon agreed to a divorce in 1974, it never materialized, and the following year, he and Ono reconciled. Pang believes Lennon’s boundless enthusiasm at ending their marriage took Ono by surprise and catalyzed her efforts to win her husband back. Lennon’s tragic murder in 1980 was devastating for Pang who, in addition to a career in writing, acting, and jewelry design, released a documentary, The Lost Weekend, about their relationship in April 2022. She expressed gratitude for the time they had together, calling their relationship a “gift meant to be”.
The Lost Weekend documentary will be in theaters starting April 13th, and Pang will host photo exhibitions at City Winery in New York City and Philadelphia on April 8th and 9th and April 15th and 16th, respectively.
