The artist Jeezy purportedly provides a glimpse into why his relationship with Jeannie Mai ended in his recent song "Don't Cheat", which debuted on November 3 with his album I Might Forgive…But I Don’t Forget. The main refrain of the song asserts, "Real n–gas don’t cheat," a phrase which he follows with, "I be out here getting paper while you sleep. Yeah, once again, baby, ‘cause real n–gas don’t cheat."

In the song’s first verse, Jeezy, 46, whose birth name is Jay Wayne Jenkins, implies that it was he who was deceived in a previous relationship. Without specifying to whom he is referring, he lyrics, "Real s–t, been cheated on and I been lied to. Would’ve went to war ‘bout them bitches, I would’ve died too."

In the second verse, Jeezy emphasizes his trustworthiness, stating, "In the world with no one to trust, know you can trust me. Just know that I’m stay on my s–t and make ‘em lust me. And I ain’t about you playin’ them games, I know my worth."

Jeezy's new song and album were released not long after the rapper filed for divorce from Jeannie, 44, on September 14. Soon after their split, fans started speculating that Jeannie, former The Real cohost, had been unfaithful with Mario Lopez, but this was swiftly disproved by TMZ.

The relationship between Jeannie and Jeezy began quietly in November 2018 when he was a guest on her show The Real. A year later, in September of 2019, she confirmed the relationship publicly on one of the show’s episodes. Jeezy proposed in April 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, and they married exactly a year later. In January 2022, Jeannie gave birth to the couple's daughter, Monaco.

The announcement that Jeezy sought a divorce shocked fans. In October, he publicly confessed his struggle with the decision, "The decision to end this chapter in my life was not made impulsively and comes with a heavy heart," he conveyed. "Despite this, my love and respect for Jeannie remains and the time we spent together holds a cherished place in my heart. Our beautiful daughter is the best gift from our relationship and I am committed to assuring she feels the love and stability she deserves."

Jeezy requested joint legal custody of Monaco in his September divorce filing. He also underlined in his court documents that "no hope for reconciliation" remained between him and Jeannie.

Jeannie briefly opened up about the split while on Sherri Shepherd’s talk show in October. She stated, "I’m not going to lie, it takes every day to just really sit and be quiet in your thoughts," she revealed. "Take care of me." Further, she mentioned that she's taking the change one day at a time post-breakup.
