"If Liverpool lost 7-0 to Man Utd, 'I would be furious' - Alisson reveals his reaction"
Alisson, the goalkeeper for Liverpool, has confessed that he would be extremely motivated if he were in the Manchester United team, especially considering their 7-0 defeat at Anfield last season. This statement comes ahead of Sunday's match being held at Anfield.
Liverpool is set to welcome their rivals from Manchester this weekend as they strive to maintain their leading position in the Premier League.
United, on the other hand, will be venturing to Merseyside with the hope of retaliating to their 7-0 thrashing back in March. However, their morale is low after being ousted from the Champions League in the previous week.
During an interview with the Guardian, Alisson revealed how he felt when asked if he were a United player preparing for this upcoming game. Alisson has been in a similar position when Liverpool defeated Roma 5-2 in 2018, where he played as goalkeeper.
Alisson commented that he would be extremely fired up and would instill the same in his teammates as well. He has played against Liverpool before and is aware of the team's strength while playing at Anfield.
He stated that although the previous experience had been a bad one in terms of the result, such games make football exciting. He believes that players from Liverpool FC, Chelsea, Man United, Man City should look forward to these kind of matches and enjoy the spirited rivalry and competition.
'As an elite football player, you would try to use the 7-0 defeat as a motivation. I’m not very familiar with the Man United players, but I'm confident that they will be giving their best to achieve a result' Alisson further noted.
The 7-0 defeat of United at Anfield the previous season, came shortly after their Carabao Cup victory, which was the pinnacle of Erik ten Hag's tenure so far.
Since then, the expectations from United were high, but they haven't yet lived up to them and might end up this weekend as low as ninth in the Premier League standings.
While United will be heading to Anfield having experienced a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in their final Champions League group stage match, Liverpool had the opportunity to rest their top players during their defeat to Union Saint-Gilloise in the Europa League on Thursday as they had already secured their top position in the group.
