As plans for the new Harry Potter TV series are in full swing, speculation is rife about who will be cast as the beloved characters. The unknown actors could soon find themselves thrust into a world of unimaginable wealth and luxury. While the main stars from all eight magical films have enjoyed successful careers and amassed impressive fortunes, not all have been so lucky. Some have faced financial struggles, rehab stints, and surprisingly low earnings - with one even earning a dismal £2.91 an hour.

Let's delve into the earnings of these famous wizards, witches, and muggles, from the wealthiest to the less fortunate....

Daniel Radcliffe - £96.3 million

Playing the main boy-wizard in all eight films, Daniel was reportedly paid a cool £1 million for the first film when he was just 12, and had earned £37.5 million by the final two. Then the royalties started pouring in, reports the Mirror.

He has now amassed a fortune exceeding £96 million, landing him a spot on the Sunday Times 40 Under 40 Rich List.

Although none of his roles since Harry Potter have been as high-profile, Daniel has continued to act, starring in the horror film The Woman in Black and is set to appear in Batso alongside Ethan Hawke.

Daniel Radcliffe's true wealth isn't just from his acting gigs; it's his shrewd business moves that really count. The Fulham-born star has most of his cash stashed in Gilmore Jacobs Limited, a company his parents set up back in 2000 which cleverly invests in property and theatre companies.

These days, Daniel splits his time between a chic pad in West London and a trendy spot in New York's West Village, where he lives with his one year old son and partner, Erin Darke.

Robert Pattinson - £80 million

Remember Robert Pattinson? Sure, he was in Harry Potter, but it's his Twilight fame that really made him a household name. At just 17, he landed the role of Hogwarts hunk Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter And The Goblet of Fire.

Despite being offed early by Voldemort's crony Peter Pettigrew, meaning no more wizarding world cash-ins, the cool £2million he pocketed helped him chase new dreams in music, as he confessed to GQ Magazine, he 'spent a lot of time living off the Harry Potter money'.

Robert eventually returned to acting and struck gold with his role as vampire Edward Cullen in Twilight. This led to four sequels and more novels, adding a cool £10 million to Robert's bank balance. Fast forward to 2022, and Robert has bagged the coveted role of Batman, with the sequel set to hit screens in 2027. He splits his time between West London and Los Angeles, living with his actress fiancee, Suki Waterhouse, and their first child, born in March 2024.

Emma Watson - £67 million

Emma boasts a fortune of £67 million after landing the role of Hermione Granger, which at just 10 years old, catapulted her into stardom. Now 34, she ranks 39th on the Sunday Times 40 under 40 list, just below Daniel Radcliffe.

The Harry Potter franchise alone earned her a staggering £49 million, with a whopping £24 million coming from The Deathly Hallows, Part 1 and 2. Disney took notice of her popularity and offered her £17 million to play Belle in Beauty and the Beast.

She also pocketed £3 million from the 2019 adaptation of Little Women.

She's also made waves in the fashion and beauty world, having been the face of Lancome, Burberry, and Prada Beauty, among others. Emma was also appointed the youngest member of the boards of directors of Kering, which owns Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent.

Emma Watson, who we all know as the brainy Hermione Granger, had a head start in life, attending the prestigious Dragon School in Oxford. The daughter of lawyers, Emma has diversified her income streams with an investment company and even launched Renais, a Dorset-based gin distillery.

Rupert Grint - £40 million

Rupert Grint, played hapless Ron Weasley, and is worth a cool £40 million. The 36 year old actor made a whopping £21 million from his role as Harry's best mate.

But since then, he's managed to double his fortune. Speaking about his earnings from the franchise, he once said, 'It was kind of ridiculous what we got'.

Post-Harry Potter, Rupert has been keeping busy with roles in Apple TV's horror series Servant and Netflix's Cabinet of Curiosities. Like his co-stars Daniel and Emma, he's also invested in property.

Rupert, who shares a four year old daughter, Wednesday, with long-term partner Georgia Groome, owns Eevil Plan Properties with his father, Nigel, and Clay 10, which manages investments and any film and TV income.

However, last November, Rupert faced a setback when he lost a battle with HMRC, resulting in a hefty £1.8 million tax bill.

Tom Felton - £16 million

Tom Felton, known for his role as Draco Malfoy, has a net worth of £16 million. The former Hogwarts bad boy has certainly come a long way since his acting debut at the tender age of six. Despite joining the magical world of Harry Potter at 12, Tom's first taste of stardom was in the 1997 film The Borrowers.

He shot to fame as the notorious Draco, raking in £14 million, but unlike his co-stars, he confessed to splurging his earnings on swanky cars and extravagant presents.

'I had been working for eight years, and all I had to show for it was this horrible debt. At one point we had the bailiff at the door,' he revealed.

Thankfully, the Slytherin alum managed to turn his fortunes around, starring in blockbusters like Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes and making his West End debut in the thrilling play 22.2 A Ghost Story in 2022.

His tell-all memoir, Beyond the Wand: The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard, which soared to the top of the New York Times bestseller list, delves into his struggles with substance abuse that led to a rehab stint.

'One thing that people keep on saying to me is that the wealth and the fame must have made up for missing out on my childhood,' Tom reflected in 2010. 'But the idea of money - putting a price on your childhood - is ridiculous. You will never get those years back, and you can't put a price on them.'

Matthew Lewis - £8 million

Meanwhile, Matthew Lewis, who portrayed the unlikely hero Neville Longbottom, the only other wizard besides Harry Potter himself capable of defeating the dark lord Voldemort, has amassed a cool £8 million.

Leeds native Matthew, who's 35 and a Harry Potter film series stalwart, has certainly made magic beyond the franchise. After enchanting audiences in all eight films, he worked his charm next to Emilia Clarke in the 2016 blockbuster Me Before You and impressed on TV screens with roles in Happy Valley, The Syndicate, Girlfriends and All Creatures Great and Small.

It's not just the lead stars who've raked it in from the Wizarding World. Katie Leung cast a spell as Potter's Scottish sweetheart, Cho Chang, and pocketed a cool £4 million despite her acting debut.

Meanwhile, Evanna Lynch, who portrayed the adorably eccentric Luna Lovegood at just 15, snagged £3 million for waving her wand.

On the flip side, not all Hogwarts alumni have filled their Gringotts vaults quite as much. Miriam Margolyes, who was Professor Pomona Sprout in two of the beloved films, opened up about her paycheck from her wizarding world gigs.

Despite being 83, she didn't conjure up the big bucks like some co-stars. 'I never made Harry Potter millions,' she revealed. 'I think the three or four main people did, and they deserve it, but my character didn't.'

Her role as the head of Hufflepuff only lined her pockets with £60,000, but fame was an added bonus. 'I was only in two, and I only got £60,000 for being Professor Sprout, but I'm not grumbling. Now, I grumbled then, but it made me very famous,' she spilled to Metro.

But it wasn't all glitz and glamour; even the extras had their work cut out. Londoner Samantha Clinch shared a peek into her pre-dawn starts as Eloise Midgen on set, starting her days at the ungodly hour of 5.30am.

The former child actress, who had a minor role in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, confessed that she was paid a mere £35 per day. In a TikTok post that's now gone viral, she shared her memories of fighting through 'heavy, heavy traffic' during rush hour for an early start, only to earn a measly £2.91 per hour.

She even raised questions about the legality of such a low wage.
