Gianvito Rossi Unveils Valì, First Handbag Collection, and Discusses Partnership with Richemont
Italian shoe designer Gianvito Rossi revealed his first handbag, the Valì, on Wednesday. This significant step comes three months after establishing a partnership with luxury conglomerate Richemont. The Valì perfectly captures the essence of Gianvito, combining high-quality artisan craftsmanship, refined luxury, and a touch of modernity. Rossi stated that he had long desired to design a handbag. The purse was a crucial accessory for women, prompting him to provide his interpretation. He was intrigued by the choices women worldwide make regarding their handbags. The Valì was introduced globally on October 18, with special pop-up displays in Bergdorf Goodman and Isetan, as well as launches in selected international retailers. The Valì will also be sold in Gianvito Rossi boutiques, of which there are currently 39 worldwide. Furthermore, select Valì styles will be carried by Net-a-Porter, the exclusive online retail partner for the product launch. Rossi envisioned the bag as a petite suitcase since women use their bags in that manner. He wanted to create a handbag that was precious and could hold a woman's valuable items. The word Valì was derived from the French term for suitcase. The Valì, whose shape with rounded corners is reminiscent of an old suitcase, comes across as robust yet lightweight. Priced at 2,250 euros, the Valì, made from calfskin, is available in four shades: black, peach, off-white, and violet. Gianvito has been diligently expanding his business, with new openings in Switzerland, Germany, Netherlands, Shenzhen, and Hanoi. His next ventures include boutiques in Kuwait and Riyadh, including the first store in Saudi's Faisaliah Mall. The legendary shoe designer, Sergio Rossi's son, Gianvito has cultivated a style steeped in Italian culture. The similarity of thought between Gianvito and Richemont about the long-term preservation of quality performance and relevant direct retail expansion led to their partnership. Gianvito, who aspires to increase sales worldwide and production while maintaining supreme quality, believes in a promising future for those who can match his level of quality. He admires inherited strong traditions - the competence and culture of Italian artisans - and seeks to reinterpret age-old practices in a unique, contemporary style. Fittingly, his latest collection draws inspiration from Ancient Rome. Famous women, including Rihanna, Michelle Yeoh, and Anitta, appreciate Rossi's designs – a blend of high preciousness and boldness. Rossi creates with the intent to enhance a woman's best look without overpowering it. When asked if he would like to join other brands in opening hotels, Gianvito replied that he loved hotels, but only as a visitor.
