Erik ten Hag addressed concerns about David de Gea's role in Manchester United following his disastrous performance in their 3-0 loss to Sevilla in the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals.

The team, previously considered one of the favourites to win the competition, was dumped out after leading 2-0 in the first leg at Old Trafford, only to concede two own goals in the last 10 minutes and forced to settle for a draw.

During the second leg, United struggled in Spain, with De Gea's poor form adding to their woes. He gave the ball away to gift Youssef En-Nesyri the opener and failed to claim crosses, allowing Loic Bade to nod in Sevilla's second of the evening. The goalkeeper's embarrassment was compounded when he failed to control a high ball and allowed En-Nesyri to score a third.

In a post-match press conference, Ten Hag was asked about De Gea's future as United's goalkeeper, to which he replied, "He's the one with the most clean sheets in the Premier League, that shows he's a very capable goalkeeper."

According to sources, United is confident of extending De Gea's contract, which is set to expire this summer. However, they are also considering bringing in another goalkeeper for long-term planning. Porto's Diogo Costa and Brentford's David Raya, who replaced De Gea in the Spanish national team setup, are on the club's radar.

On the latest episode of Talking Transfers, part of the 90min podcast network, Scott Saunders, Graeme Bailey, and Toby Cudworth discuss a potential midfield merry-go-round this summer, Victor Osimhen's chances of joining Chelsea, Mason Mount and Conor Gallagher's futures, Harry Kane, Ilkay Gundogan, Ousmane Dembele, and more!

Furthermore, Ten Hag praised De Gea's complete attributes as a goalkeeper, explaining the most important attribute in his game. Ten Hag also expressed his disappointment with United's finishing in their Premier League victory over Nottingham Forest.
