Tottenham interest brings to light Conor Gallagher's demands at Chelsea
There are rumors that Tottenham Hotspur may take another shot at signing Conor Gallagher in the summer if the player doesn't renew his contract with Chelsea, according to information obtained by 90min.
Gallagher, having distinguished himself as one of Chelsea's top performers this season, with his most recent achievement being a decisive double score in Monday's 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace.
Though his current contract with Stamford Bridge will expire in 2025, there hasn't been much headway in negotiation for a new one. However, Mauricio Pochettino, the head coach, hopes to change this situation.
Gallagher is aiming for terms similar to Moises Caicedo, who transferred from Brighton & Hove Albion for a UK record £115m and is thought to be earning around £150,000 per week.
Chelsea has a practice of considering offers for players in the last 18 months of their contract, and Gallagher reached this point at the beginning of the year. However, Chelsea's previous£60m valuation deterred potential buyers.
Reports from 90min suggest that the price could drop to approximately £50m if Gallagher doesn't secure a new contract by season's end, although Chelsea insiders reference Mason Mount's £60m deal as his contract was also counting down last year.
Tottenham has shown interest in Gallagher for a while, and head coach Ange Postecoglou appreciates the skills of the England international. If Chelsea is open to a sale by the summer, Spurs may attempt to sign Gallagher in a manner similar to their acquisition of James Maddison after Leicester City's drop last year.
While Pochettino has always pushed for Gallagher's retention, the club might approve a sell-out regardless of his stance if the rest of their transfer management panel, including chairman Todd Boehly, co-owner Behdad Eghbali, co-director of recruitment and talent Joe Shields, and sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, deem it beneficial to the club.
Last Wednesday, 90min revealed that contrary to reports that Chelsea is at risk with the Premier League’s Profit & Sustainability Rules, this isn't generally believed to be true. Even though the Blues plan to spend more than £200m this summer without risk, they could still make a significant profit from player sales, a factor that might make them more willing to receive offers for Gallagher.
