"Mason Mount: Chelsea Places Price Tag on Target Wanted by Man Utd"
According to 90min, Chelsea is demanding £70m to allow Mason Mount to leave the club this summer, amid interest from Manchester United. Mount's contract with Chelsea will expire in twelve months, and although the new Chelsea manager, Mauricio Pochettino, wants to work with the England international, he has so far declined to sign an extension.
Chelsea officials have stated that they are willing to sell Mount if he does not extend his contract, but they have made it clear that they will not be pressured into lowering their demands. The Blues have set a valuation of £70m for the player and will not sell him if their asking price is not met. However, this could be bad news for Manchester United, who are keen to sign Mount but currently, are only willing to offer £50m due to his expiring contract and their need to invest in other areas of the squad.
Chelsea has not given up hope of extending Mount's contract and is willing to sit down with him again to try and thrash out an agreement, but no further progress has been made at this point. Manchester United is watching developments closely and believe that Chelsea might lower their demand as the summer progresses if they fail to convince Mount to put pen to paper.
Although Pochettino wants to keep Mount next season, bolstering the midfield remains a key priority for Chelsea even if Mount decides to stay at the club. Chelsea officials have not yet ruled out pursuing both Brighton's Moises Caicedo and West Ham's Declan Rice. There are also hopes to bolster the attack, where Lautaro Martinez from Inter has been added to a shortlist that also includes Napoli's Victor Osimhen and Atalanta's Rasmus Hojlund.
