Chelsea Interested in Brennan Johnson & Jeremy Doku Following Michael Olise's Rejection
Chelsea are eager to move on from their unsuccessful pursuit of Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise and have made inquiries about several alternative targets, according to 90min.
The Blues triggered a £35m release clause in Olise's contract with Palace and believed they had secured a deal for the 21-year-old before his surprising announcement of a new four-year contract with Selhurst Park.
Head coach Mauricio Pochettino still desires to strengthen his forward line with a new addition, and sources have confirmed to 90min that enquiries have been made about Nottingham Forest's Brennan Johnson and Rennes' Jeremy Doku.
Forest have been fending off interest in Johnson throughout the summer and rejected a bid of approximately £40m from Brentford. Instead, they value the Welsh international at over £50m, although they are open to considering offers involving player swaps.
Johnson was already on Chelsea's radar before the failed move for Olise, but now the Blues have increased their interest.
Regarding Doku, who is also a potential replacement for Riyad Mahrez on Manchester City's radar, Chelsea have reached out to assess the feasibility of signing the 21-year-old.
Chelsea has been exploring a long list of possible targets and has been examining their options throughout the summer.
They expressed interest in Lyon's Rayan Cherki earlier this summer, and discussions about personal terms with Ajax's Mohammed Kudus have also taken place. According to 90min, both players remain of interest to Chelsea.
Chelsea is expected to imminently announce the signing of midfielder Romeo Lavia from Southampton and is also eager to find a new goalkeeper to compete with recent signing Robert Sanchez.
On this week's episode of Talking Transfers, part of the 90min podcast network, Scott Saunders is joined by Toby Cudworth, Graeme Bailey, and Sean Walsh to discuss Liverpool's response to missing out on Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, as well as Harry Maguire's future at Manchester United and more!
