Bruno Fernandes, the captain of Manchester United, has expressed his intention to remain at Old Trafford post the current season, provided the club wishes the same.

Recent weeks have seen a lot of speculation around Fernandes's future, with rumors of his transfer to Bayern Munich and the Saudi Pro League surfacing.

However, Fernandes has consistently maintained that his future lies with Manchester United as long as the club values his services. After the 3-2 victory against Newcastle United on Wednesday night, he hinted that the club strongly believes in his crucial role for the team.

'As long as the club wants me to stay and envisions me as a part of their future, I'm here. But, if at any point they don't feel the need for my services, I'll move,' Fernandes stated in a conversation with Sky Sports.

The victory over Newcastle saw United coming at par with the Magpies in the Premier League, just before the concluding day of the 2023/24 season on Sunday. Although Newcastle holds a better position thanks to their superior goal difference, they may lose to United if they stumble against Brentford. Meanwhile, United will be playing Brighton.

If United ends up in the eighth position and records their lowest ever finish in the Premier League, they may still secure a spot in the Europa League if they manage to win against Manchester City in the FA Cup Final. Interestingly, if that happens, it might rob Newcastle of the possibility of securing a place in Europe, unless they manage to surpass Chelsea and move to the sixth place.

Fernandes went on to say, 'While the ongoing season has been challenging, the support we received from the fans has been exceptional. Their contribution to our journey this season has been nothing short of remarkable. They indeed deserve a better performance from us. However, though we've been working hard and delivering our best, it seems insufficient. We need to elevate our game.'

'There's no such thing as a captain's performance, it's always a team's performance. Having the armband doesn't make me any different. I give it my all in every game and we do everything possible for the club. Given that we are part of a prestigious club, we need to maintain high standards in all our games.'
