Ranking of Premier League goalkeepers with the highest save percentages prior to international break
Being a goalkeeper is a challenging job.
Hold on. Did I say 'challenging'? I meant 'privileged'. After all, they're the only ones who get to use their hands, shattering the essential principle of soccer. A bit of perspective, please?
Regardless, some players excel at using their hands and arms within the rules of the game. Good on them. Why not consider an actual job, such as compiling data on every Premier League goalkeeper's save percentages up to the November international break?
Speaking of which, here is a list of every Premier League goalie's save percentage up to the November international break.
*Note: To be eligible, goalkeepers must have participated in more than three Premier League games this season, with statistics courtesy of FBRef
Arsenal, Games: 4, Goals surrendered: 4, Saves: 5, Save percentage: 55.6% Aaron Ramsdale's stats might be a bit misleading due to his limited playtime of four games this season. However, the numbers aren't too flattering even within this short span.
Burnley, Games: 12, Goals surrendered: 30, Saves: 40, Save percentage: 60.6% In July, Burnley agreed to provide Manchester City with a fee that could rise to a club record £19m for James Trafford. It's unlikely they predicted he would rank second to last on this list three months into the season.
Brighton & Hove Albion, Games: 7, Goals surrendered: 13, Saves: 21, Save percentage: 62.5% If this trend continues, Jason could be heading straight back to Sunderland Til I Die.
Aston Villa, Games: 11, Goals surrendered: 16, Saves: 30, Save percentage: 63.6% Before calling yourself the best goalie in the world, Emi, how about getting in the top half of this list?
Brighton & Hove Albion, Games: 5, Goals surrendered: 8, Saves: 12, Save percentage: 65.0% Brighton seems to have two top-flight worthy goalkeepers, neither of whom seem particularly adept at keeping the ball away from the goal. Understood.
Sheffield United, Games: 12, Goals surrendered: 31, Saves: 57, Save percentage: 65.5% Search 'League One Wes' on YouTube and you'll understand what I mean.
Manchester City, Games: 11, Goals surrendered: 11, Saves: 19, Save percentage: 65.5% It's only just that Manchester City's 11th outfielder isn't too proficient at his primary task.
Brentford, Games: 11, Goals surrendered: 15, Saves: 27, Save percentage: 66.7% Did Brentford know that Mark Flekken was 30 when they signed him?
Luton Town, Games: 12, Goals surrendered: 22, Saves: 43, Save percentage: 67.2% Thomas Kaminski's season highlights so far are mind blowing. Luton should seriously contemplate strengthening their defence.
Everton, Games: 12, Goals surrendered: 17, Saves: 28, Save percentage: 67.4% Note to self: Compile a list of Premier League's biggest complainers.
Crystal Palace, Games: 12, Goals surrendered: 16, Saves: 29, Save percentage: 68.2% Even with Dean Henderson's arrival, Sam Johnstone maintained his position as Crystal Palace's first-choice goalkeeper. Don't look into Henderson's injury record.
Nottingham Forest, Games: 10, Goals surrendered: 15, Saves: 30, Save percentage: 68.9% Matt Turner left Arsenal for regular football. He was benched by Steve Cooper in Nottingham Forest's last two matches before the international break. Indeed, sometimes the own team can disappoint.
West Ham United, Games: 12, Goals surrendered: 22, Saves: 43, Save percentage: 69.2% Kudos to Alphonse Areola for finally being able to replace 38-year-old Lukasz Fabianski as West Ham's first-choice goalkeeper.
Bournemouth, Games: 10, Goals surrendered: 20, Saves: 43, Save percentage: 71.4% When Neto suffered an ankle injury a few weeks ago, Bournemouth recalled Mark Travers from his loan spell with Stoke City, where he was a regular starter. With Ionut Radu taking over during Neto's absence and the latter now fit again, Travers has been relegated to third choice. Funny, isn't it?
Wolverhampton Wanderers, Games: 12, Goals surrendered: 20, Saves: 41, Save percentage: 71.7% Every single match, Jose Sa manages to find himself in a situation requiring extensive injury treatment. Take a seat, Dan Bentley.
Arsenal, Games: 8, Goals surrendered: 6, Saves: 12, Save percentage: 72.2% All statistical enthusiasts now have enough proof that David Raya deserves to continue as Arsenal's first-choice goalkeeper. Hope everyone's pleased.
Chelsea, Games: 12, Goals surrendered: 16, Saves: 35, Save percentage: 72.5% Hardcore Bob Sanchez. That's it.
Newcastle United, Games: 12, Goals surrendered: 13, Saves: 35, Save percentage: 72.9% The highest-ranking English goalkeeper on this list is currently unable to secure a place in the Three Lions squad. Very curious indeed.
