New manager officially announced by Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich has publicized the hiring of Vincent Kompany as their new head coach. He signed an agreement to remain with the leading Bundesliga team until 2027.
After making a mutual decision to sever ties with their previous manager, Thomas Tuchel, at the conclusion of the 2023/24 season back in February, the club has been in search of a new manager. Their initial choices did not come to fruition.
Both Julian Nagelsmann and Hansi Flick, former Bayern Munich managers, were connected to potential return stints at Allianz Arena. However, neither arrangement came to pass, and Ralf Rangnick opted to stay with the Austria National team rather than joining Bayern.
Rumours suggested that Tuchel might stay on beyond the planned departure. However, the club hierarchy quickly dismissed these speculations.
After considering several candidates such as Manchester United's Erik ten Hag, Brentford's Thomas Frank and Roberto De Zerbi, formerly from Brighton & Hove Albion, Bayern Munich decided on Vincent Kompany, who was managing Burnley at the time.
In an interview with Bayern channels, Kompany expressed his excitement to take on the challenge of leading Bayern Munich. He considered the opportunity as a great honour. He acknowledged the club's status in international football and shared his coaching philosophy, which involves playing aggressive, creative and ball possession football.
Kompany's prior coaching experience was impressive, as he led the Burnley team to the Championship title in 2022/23. However, his young team struggled in the Premier League and was promptly demoted to the second tier after garnering a disappointing 24 points from 38 games.
Before Burnley, Kompany managed Anderlecht for two years and played as a player-coach for four games. Throughout his management career of 192 games, he achieved a 43.23% win rate with 83 wins, 58 draws and 51 losses.
The task ahead for Kompany at Bayern appears challenging as the team ended the 2023/24 season in the third position in the Bundesliga, trailing behind Bayer Leverkusen and Stuttgart.
